Thank you all for a difficult job. Surprising entries this week. As always: the comments are my personal opinion, a measly amateur. So please value the comments accordingly.

@Allyance Mimes! Who doesn't hates mimes? :) It's a creative idea to shoot mimes(...) for this theme. Pity that they're not actually 'miming' in the photo. Without the caption it wouldn't be obvious.

@mollyc Ah, this image has the Molly-signature. I love it, although for me it doesn't have a clear connection with 'silence'.

@katbel Good that you later added a caption. Now I see what you wanted to show. I don't know how you could have solved the problem without the caption. Perhaps include a part of the actor/subject?

@Clix Pix Beautiful clear product shot. I wasn't aware of this hearing aid solution. Interesting! I have seen the newer solutions (CI and ABI). Our daughter recenty started a bachelor in biotechnical engeneering. I hope that see will one day has a part in such great science applications.

@tizeye Hmppf. You just want to show off your A7RIII! :) Yes, I am envious, and I like your interpretation of 'silence'.

@OldMacs4Me I can feel the silence in your image. You automatically start to whisper to your companions.

@Janichsan Nice composition. Quiet. Soltitude. Doesn't really say 'silence' to me, but nevertheless a lovely image.

@Hughmac The dead don't talk. That's true. I have a feeling that the church is the main subject. (and I wouldn't mind silencing the church, but that's a different topic...)

@akash.nu Oh, I can relate to this. Putting your feet up after a long walk and listen to the silence.

@Laird Knox A surprising way to show 'silence'. I like it. Where is this? Goblin valley state park?

The results:

3rd: Akash.nu
2nd: Clix Pix
1st: Oldmacs4me

Congratulations to Oldmacs4me! Such a lovely, quiet environment to be paddling gently along in..... I am surprised to be on the podium too -- thank you, Oblomow! Akash.nu, I'd love to be relaxing in that same peaceful looking place in your photo -- perfect for this topic!

The BAHA was developed in Sweden with osseointegration being a key factor in the system's success, and of course R&D in this field still continues today to create new and even more effective devices to assist those who may not be able to benefit from traditional hearing aids.

Congratulations to the winners, well deserved!
Thanks oblomow for explaining: it’s my first ever photo contest.
I’ve so much to learn, but it’s fun .

Wow, thanks(?) for the rather unexpected top billing. I really had @Laird Knox at the top of the heap. That face in the rocks blew me away. I also especially liked @Clix Pix take on the topic. Congratulations to all of the other entrants for some excellent entries. My mind is drawing a blank at the moment, so I will be back this evening once something percolates its way to the surface.

EDIT: As soon as I posted this I looked out the window and spotted my topic. Fall Colours is now up and running.

The mimes are my wife on the right and her best friend on the left. Photo was taken at an annual Halloween party for the kids in town put on by the Rotary and Kiwanis and other fraternal organizations. They came up with this idea as their costumes for the party. We gave each kid a big bag of candy and provided hot dogs and chili for free. Good memories. They played their parts as mimes through out the party.

Thanks for the backstory. Are they really mimes, or just dressed like mimes for the occassion?

I had to look that up, I have never heard of Goblin Valley State Park.

This is in a place that is known by two names: Little Finland or Hobgoblin's Playground. It is about 110 miles from Las Vegas and takes about three hours to get there. The first 70 miles takes an hour, the next 30 miles takes an hour, and the final 10 miles takes another hour. The last ten miles are down Mud Wash Road which is literally a mud wash. In places you have brush scraping across both sides of your vehicle at the same time.

The "cliff" on the left is just a bit over knee high. The pillar to the right is six or eight inches tall. There's so much detail in the area that you could shoot there for weeks. My understanding is that I haven't actually made it to the Little Finland part of the formation. I'm told that a layer of salt makes it look like everything is covered in snow.

Here's another view of the area:

Definitely need to get back out there soon.

Oh wow didn’t expect my name up there on the podium. Thank you for the kind words. This was on an island in Croatia.

Congratulations to everyone. That night shot from Laird Knox did it for me as well.

I wonder if a photo that has no subject, such as one that is similar to a blank and white paper page from corner to corner would be the most silent?

~just wondering :)

you're 4 days late.... Now you'll never know :)
Still time to take your best shot at this weeks Fall Colours competition. The worst that can happen is should you win you will have to come up with a new topic then judge it.

Ha! I don't want to compete, because if I win then I have to start a "contest" :)

By the way, I did take a bunch of photos of Fall Colors before the snow started falling a couple of days ago. Most of the beautiful yellow color leaves have already fallen from the trees, and only some of the rust color ones remain. Still beautiful, but not as much as it was a week ago.
