About half way through the week, and I'm very pleased by what I'm seeing. There's a lot of variety here, which is just great.
Here are my comments. You UK photographers seemed to like this contest. Surprise!
@glenthompson: Great moody sky, and I liked the foreground’s straight line.
@anotherscotsman: Fine tonal range, and I especially liked the way the first light is blown out, and the others are not. Counter-intuitively, the closer lights are more indistinct.
@Miltz: the subtle colors with white fog worked very well for me. The tree branches with the odd leaf remaining are perfect, as is the single figure.
@Alexander.Of.Oz: great use of color, and the light on the slope is very nice.
@someoldguy: reflections can be tricky, but here they are effective.
@kenoh: the subtle colors on the trunks out in the water add a lot, and I liked the shadows in the foreground as well.
@The Bad Guy: this is The Bad Rain, well-rendered. This is a picture I don’t want to be in, and I admire its style.
@AlexH: very nice work, but as in The Bad Guy’s rain image, this is a road I’d rather not be on. You caught that very nicely.
@pmxperience: I very much like the straight lines and geometry here, and that the wharf simply disappears. Featureless sky.
@oblomow: the blue-green bag is a nice little surprise among the earth tones.
@stillcrazyman: certainly a crazy tree and, like glenthompson’s, a nice straight line to set it off.
@E3BK: something’s getting ready to happen here – nice capture.
@butch10x: I particularly like the striated clouds setting off the rounded, puffy clouds. And, of course, the top of the bridge and the city.
@Indydenny: you nailed that pre- or post-storm yellowish light.
@mfldmike: is there a little ice with that rain? The golden light goes well with the blues.
@Hughmac: I can almost feel the trees dripping on me.
@applefanboy: the sun is nicely captured, and the glow behind the trees is very nice. The ducks are a bonus.
@MacRy: the image in the drops is well-done, as is the color gradation.
Well. This wasn’t easy for me. There were a good half-dozen that I liked very much.
In the end, though:
3rd: anotherscotsman
2nd: pmxperience
1st: Miltz
Honorable Mentions go to Alexander.Of.Oz, someoldguy, and stillcrazyman.
For the “I don’t want to be in this picture” award (my category), it’s a tie between The Bad Guy and AlexH, with maybe a little edge to The Bad Guy's urban slant.
Thank you to everyone who entered.
So, Miltz, you get to choose the next contest -- you have 48 hours. There are stickies that will tell you the routine.
