The theme for this week’s contest is “Rule of Thirds”.

One of the key concepts of composition is that of the rule of thirds, so let's see your best example of this fundamental of photography.

  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • Be creative and have fun.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!
  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

I don't know, because the photo you posted in the Photo Of The Day thread shows up fine.

Cheers :)

I used to have the same issue, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Now, before pressing Cntrl-C to copy the link, I press Cntrl-A first, to ensure All the string is selected. I think sometimes it appears the entire string is highlighted, but it's not. By pressing control-A to select all, it works more reliably.

Anyway, here is my entry. Taken way back in 2004 on my old D70 whilst on a very nice holiday. The sunsets, around 5pm, were superb, so I rested the camera on a wall, held the warm up filter in front of lens and waited...

Great pics guys and gals. Way to make it hard for me.

Vpoms - Wonderful scenery and great composition. I feel that the bottom half might work a bit better for me if it was a bit lighter. Just a personal preference though.

Moakesy - That looks so idyllic. Lovely warm tone and I love the fishermen.

Deep Diver - conforms to the brief. Just a little flat for me. The lighting is obviously responsible for that.

Kenoh - Nice shot of the iconic fountains and hotel. Reminds me of my honeymoon and the female stranger who I made scream in the toilets of that hotel.....That's another story though ;) Could just be my screen but it looks a little soft.

Needfx - Nice symmetry. Well done on that. It needs oblomow to sort out the blue brolly I reckon, as the eye is drawn to it.

AlexH - What is that tower and what are the roller coaster looking things on the right hand side? This just confuses me :)

Indydenny - Lovely shot. I don't really have much else to say about it I'm afraid. I really like it though.

AFB - lovely B&W. That's a really nice shot. My only critism is that you've cut the poor bugger's feet off. Oh and I find the bright patch in the upper right hand side a bit distracting.

So onto the winners.

3rd place - Hughmac. Epic looking sky there that you've captured really nicely. Good job fella. B&W suited it really well.

2nd place - Cmdrlaforge - I went back and forth between this and the winner for ages. Such an atmospheric shot. Extra props for it being film as well. Great job.

1st place - Alexofoz - Damn that's sharp! Great composition (albeit after the crop) and really nice lighting. That's a beaut fella.

Well there you go. Thanks everyone for entering this week - some crackers as usual. Take my comments with a pinch of salt as they are just my opinions. On to the next one.

I can stamp out my own brolly (which I had to google) thank you very much :D
@oblomow, as you were :)

Agreed on all the placements!! Congrats all around!
Sorry I didn't realise that brolly was an English colloquialism. For those who don't want to Google it - Umbrella.

Oblomow is like Beetlejuice....just one more mention and he'll be here with his copy if photoshop.....

Hah! That's the amusement park just outside my city. I live in the mountains, and I took that photograph standing atop one mountain, photographing the mountain across the valley with the observation tower on it. It's all quite mountainous.

Good detail to pick them out amongst the hills...
