Love the silhouette effect, nice unique colours (Fire) and the helicopter is a nice touch for Air. Somewhat of a leading line on the top the building down to the observation deck. A nice picture in its own right. Thank you.

Well Done everyone and thank you.

Ken.

Thanks for the kind words Kenoh, and congrats to the winners! I know I wouldnt have wanted to judge. Great entries all around.

I find tranquility in this shot. It looks peaceful and calm. I like the leading line of the shore but get disturbed by the river then coming back into frame at the top after having left it. Maybe a tad to the right would have given it a continuity. I am so glad the outboards disappointed you. The ripple effects in the water add texture and I like it overall. Maybe a tad brighter and the ducks (or are they geese) in the bottom left could be easily missed. Nice image though.

What a great job judging , and commenting . So much for your fears of judging inadequacy ! This was a 'saw it out of the corner of my eye ' shot as I was headed back home . Planned on stopping at the seafood place in the picture , but they were closed ,( too bad , maybe some guy would have been frying Calamari and I'd have got the fire part) so I walked up onto the bridge and took the shot.

Fantastic picture, should have put it in for last weeks challenge as it look surreal. If I didn’t know you lived in the desert pretty much, then i would have screamed composite! but I imagine this is a unique aspect of your local geography that you can get this juxtaposition of Earth and distant (lack of) Air i.e. space. Cracking shot.
Thank you but I don't think it would have gone over well if I entered a picture in the contest I was judging. ;)

To be honest it is a composite of sorts because of the star trails but otherwise that is the image as taken. It is a wonderful place known as Little Finland or Hobgoblin's Playground. It is about a half mile stretch of otherworldly formations.

I love the lines and layers in the foreground. The sense of drama is huge but in reality it is a rather small formation. The "tower" in the lower right is about six inches high and the cliff face to the left is about three feet tall. I have one picture where I'm looking over the ridge in the back like a movie set.

Thanks for taking the time to judge and critique this week's contest.
