Wait, me?

Wow. I can't believe it! Thanks Alex H. That photo is from the top of Horsetooth Rock near Fort Collins, CO, looking out over Horsetooth Reservoir. I decided to make the trek up there for sunrise (for the first time) since I was feeling in a rut with life, grad school, etc. I biked the road, then the off-road, and finally climbed (carrying the bike at this point) to the top of the rock just as dawn was about to break.

Immediately after dawn, clouds/fog swept in just underneath the top of Horsetooth Rock, giving the scene a feel of islands of earth poking out from a white-cloud sea:

By the time I turned around to look the other way, the fog had rushed through the gap and onto the east facing side:

At the time, the only camera I had was an old Canon ELPH SD300, with which I took these photos. However, it was the beauty of this event, and the unsatisfying low resolution of these images, that were the "moving" impetus for acquiring my first ILC and getting more into photography. It's been my creative outlet ever since.

So I didn't think of it at the time, but I guess that image was "moving" in more ways than one. Thanks again for choosing it. I really enjoyed the emotion shown in the other entries, too! I'll put up a new theme tomorrow morning (US eastern time).

NeGRit0 - Your image hit the theme perfectly, but as someone that works in the zoo industry it kills me because it perpetuates the myth that zoos are horrible places that keep animals "locked up". I have a few similar shots and I usually don't publish them due to how they can be perceived by the public. That isn't to say that I don't think that you're a wonderful photographer, and that you didn't nail the theme dead on (you totally are, and you totally did). It's just an emotional response I wish people wouldn't feel. For example, I almost entered this one, but didn't for that very reason:

Thank you for the kind words, and I completely agree. Although I took the image to portray that image I do not believe that is the case. I took the photo at a small family owned zoo outside of Las Vegas. All the animals seemed very happy, and friendly. Most you could even pet and/or hold. One of the owners was even feeding the camels from his mouth (tried to get a photo, but was a split second late on the shutter). I dont believe unhappy animals would act that way. I almost entered the photo below, but ultimately chose the other as I felt it is a bit more emotional of a shot.

This is the one I was too slow on the shutter.

And here's a lemur that was playing on my girlfriends lap.

We're also a small privately owned zoo that's accredited by the same organization as Roos-N-More in NV. Very cool. (Since we're on the topic, you can find us here: http://www.twpark.com)

Great shots! Sorry I missed out on this one. Congrats Neur0genesis on a really nice capture and thanks for the backstory as well. That makes the image even more interesting.
