Y'All come.

This weeks theme is Walkabout. Most of us hike or walk and hopefully find photographic inspiration along the way. Should produce quite an eclectic mix of entries. Let's see what caught your eye when you were out and about. A short explanation is always appreciated, but novels are discouraged.

Please remember that these standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. In keeping with our most recent tradition, violators may be awarded first place. Henceforth this shall be known as the Molly-ing rule in honour of our friend and fellow perpetrator.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends on May 5 at 10 PM Mountain Daylight Time.
Have fun!

OK, last weekend we had some nice weather and so my wife and my daughters and I went to a local village called Balmaha. It is on the banks of Loch Lomond here in Scotland. From there we did the 45 minute walk up Conic Hill. Good to get you warmed up but no as challenging as any of the Munros. Anyway, the first section of the route goes through some nice woodland which I think is rather photogenic. Here is a taster.

Went for a nighttime walk through Arches NP this weekend. The park requires a timed reservation to go in now because of crowding, but not at 3AM! And honestly, the night sky there is so clear I think it's even prettier at night than during the day! There are many great viewpoints that don't require walking, but delicate arch here is the classic and about a 30 minute walk to get to from the trailhead. Mobbed during the day, pretty empty at night! This one is also sort of a self portrait, but I didn't stay still long enough for it to be clear.

This "gate" wasn't there on our the last visit to Pedra Formosa Park in Ceara, Brasil. This thing was blocking our way through Ceara's interior roads. There weren't houses around, as this road is deeply inside a national park. Who knows what it was doing there, in the middle of nowhere. I jumped off the jeep and shot it. :)

PS: I suppose it may still be blocking the road to the date.
