Come on Ken, get me out of this!
Ok, we're done here... the contest has closed... back in a bit with the results... you all made this one very difficult. Well done!
[doublepost=1471709493][/doublepost]The photos this week were awesome. I am definitely in over my head trying to judge this one. I have no credentials as a judge of photography, and can only do so based on my personal preferences - what speaks to me. Everyone of these photos met the criteria, and was a good photo in its own right... first my comments, again, based solely on how I personally reacted to each photo.
@anotherscotsman - This is an interesting shot. I like the color and the kaleidoscopic effect. I'm interested to know what the process was to get this shot. Really nice job.
@Indydenny - Nice reflection of the buildings in the glassy-smooth water. I wish there had been something interesting in the sky. Lacking that, perhaps a tighter crop would be a good choice.
@AlexH - I like this image very much. There's a lot going on here. I love the couple conversing on the bench, and the black and white image allows one to focus on the image and not be distracted by some random colored object. Well done.
@Alexander.Of.Oz - Very well done. I love the deep blue color contrasted against the black night... and the contrast of the straight lines of the subject against the reflection in the rippled water. It's almost as if the reflection is dancing on the water.
@Hughmac - I am not quite sure about this one - in my opinion (which may not be worth much), it's a bit busy. I am not quite sure where to look in this image... and I am not sure if it's too dark or if it's not dark enough.
@someoldguy - I really like the six panes of reflection. IMO, this adds a bit of interest... and the top row somewhat mirrors the bottom row, but the difference int the shadows between the two make it interesting. Very nice.
@Apple fanboy - Another nice reflection on absolutely still water. I would have liked to see a bit more color in this one. Imagine this shot with the trees showing full fall foliage.
@MacRy- This is another favorite from this week. I'm not sure exactly what the two fellows are doing - riding on a bus or train? Is the photographer inside of the bus/train looking out at the two men or is he outside looking into the bus/train? Lots of interest here, and again, no random colors to distract. Good job, sir.
@The Bad Guy - Interesting portrait from the portrait guy. I like this very much - slightly high contrast and muted colors make this one work.
@stillcrazyman - I am a big fan of classic automobile photography. This one really meets the theme and provides a lot of interest. Again, it's almost monochromatic, save the goldish body trim in the lower right corner and in the background. Also, I'm a bit "on the fence" about the wing window being at that angle. Overall, very nice.
@koilvr - Good job with this one. Love the ferris wheel, the stormy clouds and the use of the puddle as the reflecting pool.
@Ish - Very interesting take on the reflection. Having the activity in what appears to be a building lobby reflected off of the ceiling is, IMO, an unexpected treat. I also like the dark, silhouetted exposure, so as to not distract the viewer with "busy" detail, making the photo somewhat abstract. Very impressive.
@oblomow - Nice mountain scene. Good color, and slightly underexposed for a moody look. I also like the edge of shoreline in the lower right corner giving a bit of scale to the image. Nice.
@georgeinnj- Awesome job implementing this week's theme. This one is a favorite. I really like the subject matter, the very low angle and the dual reflection of the purple car in both the bumper and the chrome hubcap.
@rx7dude - Nice contrast of the modern glass building and the reflection of the more classic stone buildings. The two surfaces of the glass building add interest, as well. The wispy clouds save us from a boring solid blue sky.
@OzBok - Good job implementing the theme - there is just a small strip across the top of the actual image and the bulk is the reflection in slightly rippled water. The movement in the water make this shot work. Good job.
@deep diver - This is interesting take on the theme this week. Not sure if this was done as post processing or not, but the mirror image of the pattern in the stone works well... and the intense and varying colors also make this image work.
@Robotti - Very nice. I like the contrast of the rough textured croutons against smooth glass mirror surface. Personally, I think this image might work better as a black and white image.
@NeGRit0- Another favorite because of the subject matter... and very well done. The only negative that I see is the water puddling up in the street gutter is a bit distracting, but I still very much like this photo.
And now the winners:
3rd place: @Ish
2nd place: @Alexander.Of.Oz
Winner: @georgeinnj
So @georgeinnj, take it away!
Good job everyone and well done to the winners. Another great set of images. I always like the way the theme gets interpreted so many different ways.Ok, we're done here... the contest has closed... back in a bit with the results... you all made this one very difficult. Well done!

Photo was taken simply by standing under the Bean and moving around a bit to get the desired reflections. Helped there was no-one around at the crack of dawn in winter.
Cheers Deep Diver - the early start was a result of jet-lag. Great opportunity to see downtown empty though!Great job judging, and thanks for the feedback. The rhodochrosite is a specimen from the Field Museum in Chicago, and this image was created in PP just by flipping a copy of the image and then stitching together. The color of the original specimen really is that rich and saturated.
I lived in Chicagoland for 17 years, and have taken and seen a lot of pictures of the Bean. This is, by and far, the best photographic treatment I have seen. As for being out there in the winter at dawn....... you might want to get some professional help.
Congrats to all the winners ! No need to doubt your qualifications as to judging , you did fine . @Ish , however , I'm wise to you! It's not a reflection in your entry , but bat-people hanging from the ceiling .....
