I work in education and yesterday somebody asked if I liked my job. I acknowledged and referred to Daniel Pink's presentation. It's the answer to why people like their job. It's not the money. ( as I can tell, working in education....)

So this week's theme is 'Mastery'.

From Webster:

Definition of mastery
1a : the authority of a master : dominion
b : the upper hand in a contest or competition : superiority, ascendancy
2a : possession or display of great skill or technique
b : skill or knowledge that makes one master of a subject : command

The rules are the same as usual -

· The photographs must be your own work.

· Be creative and have fun.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

· The contest runs for a week and starts now!

· At the end of the week, last week’s winner will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the winner is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

· The 1st place winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Please update the Weekly Contest Master List when you post a new contest.

What's the matter that you couldn't come up with something challenging?

Although I think you're certainly a master, you can also submit images of other people, animals, the result of practising, etc. I am a master in stacking empty beer bottles.

I don't have a problem thinking creatively about the themes, but this one is genuinely challenging. Much more than most. That's what makes it so good.
I actually think I've got the right image for this one. I have to clean it up a little and hopefully it will be up today. BTW: I also hope to become the master of 2nd place.

Just planting that idea now.

You'll need to master my mastery in order to steal my 2nd place ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Is anyone else hearing a lot of static in the background? Pretty bothersome, isn't it? :D

BTW:. I have a strategy in place if you get 2nd. I'm going to pay off the 1st place winner to drop out and then sit back and enjoy.

(I grew up in Philadelphia. My guys have been playing it rough with your guys for about 250 years. I am EXTREMELY proud of my heritage.

Time has always had mastery over people in spite of our efforts to master time. In any case, Rolex is certainly a master of the time piece.

I shot this with my daguerreotype lens mounted backwards. Even with a small aperture plate, the DOF is extremely narrow. This is a soft focus lens that tries to mimic the original lens from 180 years ago. There is no question that Daguerre and Charles Chevalier (the optician that designed and built the lens) opened the door so that we can seek mastery of this art.
