So, the theme for this week is Parties or Events, I want to see emotions, laughter, crying, happiness or boredom. Interpret and represent the theme as you choose.

The usual rules apply:

· The photographs must be your own work.

· Be creative and have fun.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

· The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!

· At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

Catching the water balloon copy.JPG

This is a really old and not particularly good-quality image shot years ago on a camera I've long since forgotten, but I always was so tickled that I was able to capture the immediacy of my colleague's reaction as she captured the water balloon at an outdoor work event:

I think it’s a fantastic category actually. I just don’t go to many parties or events and the few I do, I don’t take a camera.

From the first #StopAdani protest held here (Australia) last year in opposition to the proposed mega-coal mine, from one of the most corrupt and polluting companies known to exist, which has been handed massive government subsidies to produce this when we should have spent that money on renewables. The body created to supposedly look after the welfare of the Great Barrier Reef has just recently been handed $440 Million, without any oversight or submissions, etc... by one federal minister here, and guess what, the board is made up of CEO's and the like from the oil, coal and dirty energy industries!

This was taken at an event in Glasgow called Electric Glen. It was held in the local park, where they installed lighting effects to light up the path through the woods and you walk through in the dark to enjoy the lights.

We are going to see Portal - same thing but in the Clyde Tunnel tomorrow so if I get a better image I may swap this one out.

This was shot in Ocean City, NJ. Tourist season ends the 1st weekend in October, and all of the residents enjoy the boardwalk on the second weekend. There is a tradition of the kids dressing in their Halloween costumes while on the boardwalk that weekend. I was about to put my camera away when I saw this family at one of the few shops that was still open.

Thank you for those who were able to participate, I understand this wasn't an easy theme for some. No more entries. I will comeback tomorrow with a winner.

Thank you all.

Also, another piece of this is.....especially when invited to a party or event that is not a public one, if one shoots up a storm during the entire thing, since this is a publicly-viewable website, the photographer may not feel comfortable sharing photos that he or she had shot at such occasions. Friends and family may not appreciate seeing or hearing about their own images popping up on here! That is more than understandable, particularly when children are involved.

So, I'm wondering.................

Is it that we don't get invited because we spend so much time with our cameras?
Or do we spend so much time with our cameras because we don't get invited?
Or maybe it's one of those vicious self-reinforcing cycles.

I know what I'm going to be talking about with my therapist in two weeks.
