Basílica de la Sagrada Família

This unfinished architecture is supposed to look like a forest with a canopy made of huge trees.

A good read on how this piece is related to the nature. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johngiuffo/2011/05/12/nature-in-barcelonas-la-sagrada-familia/

At this point it looks like there is no danger of a ping pong effect, so I'll drop in this shot of a shower head imitating rain. May try it again sometime with low light instead of flash to get a slow shutter speed.

what?? i thought we would have the whole day. it’s only 7:30am here!

still hoping for scans

See that "GMT" bit? that gives the trick away no?

It does to me. I'm on GMT+2. But since Molly is somewhere on EST, PST, MST whatever, she won't recognize it...

Oh, no, I do actually know what GMT means (5 hours ahead of me!), I just didn't see that and assumed that the 15th gave most of the day for entries. 🙂 It's totally fine, you announced it. I just wasn't paying attention to the fine print.

OK, here we go.

@Laird Knox - As cool as this looks and as much as I would love to attend TTITD, I am going to move on past this entry as it is a movie not a still. This of course gets me out of having to critique it.

@Hughmac - I like these, the image is nicely balanced and the shapes really speak to the mimicry of nature theme. I do think a tweak of the tone curve to just pull out the punch would have made it pop. I love that you have got these from your grandpa.

@deep diver - Cylindrical, tubes, fibres, floral patterns and leaf like accents. Meets the brief in my mind. I can only imagine the sounds coming from this when played by a suitably skilled individual. I maybe would have liked to see the ivories however as the valve boards and keys are normally quite visually interesting too.

@oblomow - Yes this is wonderful, it is like the chambers of the heart smooth flowing curves and a natural flow to the main construction. While this is shaped like a snail shell, my first inclination was as the ventricles of the heart.

@tizeye - Ha ha. Nicely done. I can never tell whether he intended this as a clamshell or a fungus of some kind. Nice for a water feature. I think Gaudi is an obvious master of the biomimetic vision.

@akash.nu - Speaking of which, the ultimate IMHO. Sagrada Familia. A wonderful melting pot of styles no doubt as a consequence of it having taken so long to get as complete as it is today. Still a few spires to go in I understand. I absolutely adore Sagrada Familia it is such a treasure of shapes and light. You have solved a mystery for me though. I knew Casa Miglia was to be cave like. I didn’t realise this was to be forest canopy like. It makes sense now and those shield lit up are like a pinball machine.

@OldMacs4Me - lol I would try again with a bit of glass so you can take the image straight into the flow of water and maybe lengthen the shutter speed. I am going to be annoying and tell you to watch your frame, the triangle of ceiling at the top draws the eye a bit too much for me but the scene is well lit.

@SpitUK - Not to detract from the bravery of the subject matter and to what they did, for that the greatest respect. In terms of fitting the brief, though the sheet metal and the texture of it is obviously wonderful, I feel the image speaks to the brave souls not so much biomimetic per se. I was immediately distracted by a google search of the history of the squadron and I loved the “friday the 13th” image with the notches on display. There will be some harrowing tales behind each of those icons I imagine. Thank you for the incentive to read about the squadron. I cannot believe they threw it away!

OK then. Time for sentencing.

In reverse order.

4th place - Hughmac as desired.
3rd place goes to @tizeye for the linkage to Gaudi
2nd goes to @akash.nu for a fantastic shot of the interior of Gaudi’s church
leaving 1st to @oblomow. I really like the image and the location is now on my must visit list.

Thank you for playing along this week, I know it was a stinker.

On to the next so over to you @oblomow.

Congratulations, all, especially to Oblomow -- that is an absolutely fascinating image!
Somehow time slipped away from me and I never got around to either finding something in my archives or shooting something new for this particular topic.....

Thanks. All points well founded. Using the flash pretty much dictated the angle, as straight on would not have allowed me to crop out the worst of the flash reflections. Still it was an interesting experiment which I would never have thought of trying but for the topic.

All great entries but I really liked the @akash.nu and @oblomow entries

Thank you so much for stimulating us all to try harder, and congrats to the podiums :)

The colour version of my nest was too garish to look like a realistic mimic, hence the B&W conversion...

Cheers :)

Noooooo, this is not fair. We agreed that @Laird Knox would be the chosen one!!
But the railway station is worth a visit. Took 20 years to build ( an entire generation only saw scaffolding and detours), but the result is beautiful.

Thank you @kenoh I will come up with a new contest
Play nicely with us please ;)

Cheers :)

Glad I’m in the safe zone this week. I’ve been travelling and have only manage to catch-up with the thread. Thanks a lot for the kind words.

Very interesting topic once again for this week from oblomow and many congratulations for saving me this time.

Let’s see if I can find something during my travel.

Ps. Not related to this thread but my trip has been awesome so far. I love history and seeing things like this right in front of me! I’ve been living in the history since last few days.
