After a good night sleep, here are the results. Remember, this is my opinion: the thoughts of a grumpy old amateur photographer with a bad sense of humour.

@Hughmac Tracks running into a warm sunset. At first I thought the colours were over-processed, but they’re not. I like it. It takes me back to nice evening walk on a warm summer/spring evening.

@someoldguy A well exposed snow shot. It must have been a nice walk. I guess we’re looking back to where you came from? I miss a focal point or some other reason why you took this image.

@mollyc This image tells a story. Little(?) boots and dog tracks in a thin layer of snow. The dog is already of on his own, probably enjoying the snow.

@akash.nu Although the colour cast bothers me a little, I really like the perspective and sense of scale. I can feel the anxiety of leaving the normal trail and stepping onto a wild mountain track.

@Apple_Glen_UK It must have been a lovely day that day. I can imagine why you took this image. I find a bit too static. Was there a possibility to include a train crossing the bridge?

@stillcrazyman "I have this printed and framed in my living room." He’s leading the witness, your honour! :) I can image that having this image hanging in your living room must be very relaxing. Daydreaming and remembering good old times.

@deep diver Can I be blunt? This image is disappointing. It’s not up to your usual standards. I generally love your images but this one is boring with disturbing shadows being lit in post processing. You really didn’t want a podium spot this turn? :)

@tizeye Is it common for trains to be diverted to a secondary track in a station. Over here almost all trains stop on the main track. What also surprises me, is the crossing not protected? Anyhow, it’s a pleasing image of a railway station. Lots of things to look at.

@imac wannabe This image intrigued me. It kept me looking, zooming and scrolling. I can’t tell if the wing adds to the image or takes away some of the mystery. The image has all the features of a casual snapshot, but somehow it is not. I like it.

@Clix Pix I am happy that an ‘old’ contestant interpreted the theme this way. Nice!. The carpenters? That’s really showing your age.

@OldMacs4Me That’s a great story. We had a similar experience with trash pandas while camping in Utah. Did you also get funny looks from other people? People pointing to your car?

@Janichsan At first I thought there are muddy footprints going across the street. A better look revealed that it is a person being cloned out. I like the idea and the story that you’re trying to tell.

@Buck987 Tracks on a track! Double points! Have you considered cropping oof the left, leaving only the horse, some tracks and the railing in the back? The image would be much cleaner.

@mackmgg gg Where is this? There are some big mountains in the back. The scenery is lovely, the image is properly exposed, but the skier gets lost in the big picture. (I missed him/her the first time I looked).

The results:

3rd place @Clix Pix @stillcrazyman
2nd place @mollyc @imac wannabe
1st place @akash.nu

Oh, thanks for the mention! The little(?) boots in question are mine, we had just a skiff of snow overnight a few weeks ago and as much as I don't like snow, I love doggie prints and just liked the slightly crooked line of Halley's going off for her morning constitutional.

Lovely entries everyone. ? Congrats @akash.nu ?

I thought they would be, considering the viewpoint. Therefor the '?'. When I see colourful boots, I think of little children.

I respect blunt and I don't disagree. I don't like it very much either, but it's all I had energy for. My head just wasn't in it.
This has been a tough week. The stress of providing psychotherapy via telehealth for 11.5 months had finally overwhelmed me. There are about 10 therapists at my agency, and we all REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like one another. I am very fortunate to have them. We have all been feeling the stress of being apart and wanted/needed to be back together. Everyone will be going back in 2 weeks but my boss is letting me go back tomorrow. We'll still be seeing clients via telehealth, but the band is back together. I am giddy with excitement. It almost feels like the first day of school when I was little.
I promise to do better next contest.

Not quite. It's a long exposure of two people walking across the street (actually unrelated to the kissing couple).

OMG what the hell?! I didn’t even notice that @oblomow has changed is podium winners.

I’m humbled indeed.

Brilliant entry everyone. I was almost on the verge of committing the same crime as @mollyc on many occasions.

Next one will be up soon.

Congratulations everyone and thanks for doing an awesome job @oblomow

To flesh out the story a bit.

I was making a 3 day trip from Alberta to Colorado to check on my aging mother and had decided to avoid the Interstates wherever possible. Second night out and camping possibilities were rather sparse in South Central Wyoming. It was either Cottonwood Campground in the Green Mountain area, or continue on to Rawlins and find a motel. The two photos show how close my tent was to the car, and it was an absolutely idyllic spot. Midweek in late June and just one other camper about 100 yards down the road from me. Since I was traveling, dinner was something I had picked up in the grocery deli back in Riverton, WY. Wrappings safely disposed of in the containers quite distant from my camp spot. As always I slept with a hunting knife under my pillow. I was never so deluded to think that if a bear did invade the tent I would win the fight, just hoped to inflict some damage before going under. Anyways the rest was as I described. I was pretty groggy when I first noticed the mud, and thought maybe it was the kids camped down the road playing a joke. The hood is not visible from the drivers seat so those tracks remained undiscovered until the sun came up and I got out of the car. That of course had me wide awake, not too concerned about bear cubs, but those cubs might still have been attached to their mother and that could have been really bad.

Nowadays I carry bearspray when hiking and my camping quarters are the back of a mini-van.

BTW I left the mud on 'till I returned home, wanted my better half to see what I saw. Talked to a ranger in Rawlins. He guessed the cubs would have weighed about 150 pounds based on the size of the foot prints. He said they would only have been with their mother had she not had cub(s) after this pair were born.

Thank you, Oblomow, for a position on the podium, and congratulations to Akash.nu and everyone! This was a fun topic, and at first I thought I wouldn't be entering as I had no archival images involving tracks and the timing was wrong with regard to getting fresh ones in snow. Then one day I suddenly had a lightbulb go off in my head when I was listening to some music...... CDs, of course, don't show the grooves and tracks, but I still have my collection of vinyl LPs, including most of the Carpenters' albums, so pulled out one at random and voila!

"Voice of the Heart" is actually the first album which came out after Karen's death in 1983 and includes the final two songs that she had recorded. If I'd thought of it at the time I was rummaging in the LP shelves I would've pulled out the rare "Offering," which is their debut album, released in 1969. Later the title of that album was changed to the more familiar "Ticket to Ride."

Yep, I'm an "old" fan in every sense of the word -- actually, just a year older than Richard Carpenter himself and I still remember when it seemed as though everywhere anyone went we heard Carpenters' songs on the radio as they began having one top hit after another.....

Congratulation to those on the podium and looking forward to next weeks topic.

In large cities there is a switching yard serving many platforms. When I think back when I lived in Thetford is was the dual tracks with elevated walkway between to get to the platforms. Forget what was like in Cambridge where I changed trains for London or when I went shopping a Petersboro. Swiss rail, ignoring Zurich and it's 43 platform, most cities will have inline splits with multi-platforms and undergound/stairs to access platforms 2/3 4/5 6/7 and through trains will just blow through an unused platform.

Winter Park is somewhat unique as it is literally downtown. The crosswalk you see is platform to platform when not blocked by a loading train. Where I was standing for the photo is a wider pedestrian crossing with flashing lights and alarm with speaker when train is approaching - but no lowering restriction arm. That crossing supports a major 150+ space parking lot there people have to cross the tracks to reach downtown. No stores are built backing up the tracks as it is a city "Central Park" supporting outdoor events with fountains and a bandshell. It is bordered by a brick road (Park Ave) with upscale shops on the other side.

Incidentally, the building building you see down the track above the train is a 4 floor parking garage. On the top floor is where I am level with an osprey nest across a 2 lane street. Will post a photo in POTD next week...but have to go back to see if have hatched yet. Was frustrating as simply sat on the nest and my hoped for mate coming in with food never happened when I was there last week.

This will give you an idea of the size of the park and the shops in the background. And yes, trains come by when a concert is in progress.

That picture was from Monarch ski area, and the photo was taken close to 12,000' above sea level, and it's one of the smaller mountains in the area. Definitely some good photo opportunities over there.

Wasn't in time for this contest, but I was thinking about it when I took this photo today:

Time to start a new contest! Or do you want to punish @mollyc ( or @imac wannabe )?

Apologies guys. Yesterday just went crazy at work for me.

The new contest is up

There’s specific requirement for this one so don’t just read the title.
