Time for some comments. Please remember that these are only the views of a rank amateur so take with the appropriate pinch of salt and that any comments are intended to be genuinely constructive.

@redshifted - damp, cold and very much seasonal. Love the muted colours and the composition is spot-on. Nice use of shallow DoF.

@tizeye - nice capture of a tropical downpour. OK, slightly blurred but that actually helps with the deluge impression imho.

@Clix Pix - ducks in rain - how more on theme can you get? Lots of splashes captured certainly lets us know its raining out there and even the duck doesn't look too happy with it! Perhaps a little dark on the duck but a difficult one to expose for.

@Apple_Glen_UK - another very tropical shot. Nice composition that highlights the difference between being under the shelter of the leaves and not. Good shutter speed to capture the streaks of rain but keep some texture.

@CharlieBrandt09 - football in the rain. Reminds me of my rugby-playing days. Cold and muddy. Nice action shot that lets us know the players have a game on regardless of the weather. I honestly can't decide whether or not I like the spectators in the background. Perhaps the crop is not quite there to tell if they are deliberately in shot or just there.

@Janichsan - I like this abstract image with the rich background colours contrasting with the cool tones of the raindrops on glass.

@Hughmac - I like this macro/close-up and particularly the OOF highlights appearing like super raindrops. Nice rich shot.

@gaswerks - Like the composition and muted colours from the mist/drizzle. Like how the drop-off in clarity emphasises the murky weather. Couldn't decide whether or not I liked the telegraph pole - distraction or emphasising a leading line?

@someoldguy - Another tropical deluge. I like the inside/outside contrast you got by taking the photo from under the very tropical-looking shelter.

@stillcrazyman - Drama. I never tire of those Florida skylines with thundery rainclouds. The rain on the horizon nicely captured with plenty of foreground interest. If I were the fisherman, I'd get out of the water...

@oblomow - Even if it wasn't a mono treatment, the conditions would have made it that way! Nice atmospheric capture.

@mollyc - good double rainbow there. Only criticism would be that it is too cheerful for what I had in mind :)

@smirking - an unusual outside-looking-in shot. Gives the impression of having your nose against the shop window wanting to get in out of the rain.

@tcphoto1 - another nicely done macro/close-up with plenty of leaf detail and an overall pleasing composition. I can even see your reflection in some of the drops!

@Indydenny - nicely exposed image under difficult lighting conditions with wet roads and clouds telling the story.

@mackmgg - another almost mono shot due to the conditions. Certainly looks cold and wet to me!

Now the hard bit.

1st position - @redshifted. So atmospheric and immediately caught my eye.

2nd position - @smirking. Again, an atmospheric street-life kind of shot. Not usually my cup of tea but it told a good story and nicely executed.

3rd position - shared between @Hughmac and @CharlieBrandt09.

Thanks again to everyone who took the effort to participate and looking forward to @redshifted's choice of competition.

Congratulations to all and I found it to be a difficult subject as typically try not to take pictures in the rain. I do have photos of the aftermath of the storm...and thankfully minimal damage to my home compared to some neighbors. Also have a bunch of "gloomy day" photos that scream for sky replacement.

What I really wanted to post, but didn't want to pour through slides looking for it, was a phenomenon when lived in Phoenix during the 1980's. Like a comment, they are in an area that gets little rain, averaging 7" per year. But the phenomenon coupled with the 60 mile visibility, you will see rain clouds floating across the valley with the stream of rain pouring out, much like @stillcrazyman ocean photo. However, with the heat the water evaporates well before hitting the ground, with the downpour stopping midair.
