Let's see what shots that you can get in your own "backyard." I put that in quotes, because it doesn't literally have to be your backyard. It could be your front yard, or just anywhere you would consider to be "practically in my backyard." Interpret that however you want!

To start it off, I'll use the photo I used for last week's contest. While not actually my yard, it's taken from a trail only a few miles from home that I tend to do almost weekly!

As always, be mindful of our customary rules that come into play for the weekly competitions:

· Follow all relevant local laws regarding stay-at-home orders. If you can't go outside, try and take a photo at home or grab one from the archives.

· Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.

· The photographs must be your own work.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.

· At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.

· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

This is my kid's back yard.

Gotta sit this one out , my yard got rolled over pretty well with Tuesday's storm . Gonna take me a day or 2 to cut up the parts of my neighbor's trees that decided to grace my yard , and clean up the general mess that got left behind . At least I have power , a lot of folks in towns around me are still out owing to substantial sized trees getting snapped off/blown over onto houses/power lines.

That's too bad about your yard. I always go by the motto "When life deals you lemons make lemonade out of it".

Yeah , it sucks , but there's 6-8 more weeks in which it might come back ; and if it doesn't , there's always next year!!

Thought a bit of description would go with the post and to set the context, this was literally the backyard of a cottage I was staying in on one of my hiking trips to Wales in the Snowdonia national park.

Back at ya!
My 2.2 acre backyard, there was a den with 2 pups in it also. This a few years back. ( this not my contest photo)

Here’s images with audio I took of a fox “yelp”, it’s weird hearing it in person.
>>Not the dog bark, the yelp, my dogs were on the property boundary going nuts trying to find the fox.

well i guess @mackmgg will have to decide when he wants to cut off the entries. late entries are often allowed if the creator didn't put up a reminder or specific closing (and even then most creators are pretty lenient). i had my days wrong and thought today was actually the eighth. if i'm disqualified, that's okay.

I'll try for a last minute one seeing that the judge hasn't presided as yet! ;)

An abandoned drive-in a couple of suburbs over; I consider my backyard to be my neighbourhood and immediate surrounds.

And that's a wrap! Sorry for the delayed ending, I was out of town without cell service when it was supposed to end. I guess that means I've got one extra entry to judge...

Alright, after much delay, time for the judging! Some pretty good places people here live in!

@deep diver - That's a pretty nice view! I haven't been to Park City yet, but it's certainly on the list. Such great access to mountains! I'm guessing this was taken during one of the greener seasons?

@redshifted - I was debating between this theme and macro, so you pulled off both in one! I've always tried getting shots of bees/wasps flying near a flower, and it's pretty hard to get right!

@mtbdudex That's certainly a nice place to get out to in the morning! Most of the mountain biking around here is in full sun, so gets really hot. I'm jealous of all those trees! With the fat bike do you ride all winter up there?

@Strider64 I think the longer/uneven grass makes the photo better, even if you'd prefer a neater yard! It adds some nice texture around the squirrel, who appears deep in thought.

@tizeye Lake access would be nice! I'm sure you can get some nice birding from there too!

@Apple_Glen_UK Wow, tape! And they're even coloring within the lines? That's pretty impressive!

@someoldguy That's always a pain when it happens. Though I think my favorite "backyard" photo was the beautiful view of the Milky Way just outside of NYC after hurricane sandy! The one nice thing about widespread blackouts.

@Clix Pix I love nice rainy days at a pond. Looks like another place that probably has good birding opportunities! And nice for just sitting on the dock and enjoying the day.

@Apple fanboy Wheat fields always look so nice with the golden light at sunrise/sunset. Do you ever make your own bread from the grains? I've always been tempted to grow rye or wheat at home, but I don't have a big enough garden!

@akash.nu That's a nice shot! It makes what I'm assuming is a bird feeder look like a mini version of the cottage, with the rolling mountains in the background. It almost looks like a miniature scene with a small fence and small path!

@mollyc That's a nice shot of the fox! Looks like an inquisitive little one. We had a den with a few pups near our place this year, but I was never able to see them while I had my camera near me!

@Alexander.Of.Oz The longer I wait the more I have (get) to judge! I always love the pink flowers in a sea of green, they stand out so much! And the reddish soil I think helps that even more.

And so with that said, the winner is.... @mollyc! Followed up by @akash.nu and @Strider64
