Okay, sorry, my errands took me longer than I planned, and now I have to make it out to a swim meet, so I will be quick! Guess it's good that there weren't many entries this week. o_O

1. @kenoh I love, love, love the light in this! So wonderful. My only real comment, which is super nit-picky is that I wish all three had been just a bit further along the path so that the girl in the back had some light on her. She kind of gets lost in the shadows. However, as the family photographer, I know all too well that sometimes you can't wait for the shot or you'll miss it all together.

2. @Foogoofish What an interesting cityscape! I like the headphones on the subject; it makes the overall image a bit more intimate since it seems like we are watching a very private moment, rather than just a gaggle of people on a rooftop viewing area. I wish there was slightly better dynamic range, but without multiple exposures layered, that'd be tough. Great eye.

3. @E3BK That looks like a grand vista! I couldn't click through to the larger version, but I love the people at the summit. Great sky and the leading road up the hill to draw in the eye.

4. @Robotti What an incredible image from a technical perspective. Love the DOF, the processing, and the obvious poise of the dancer. I do admit to wondering what strawberries and ballet have to do with each other, but it is a great, almost editorial piece. :)

5. @Apple fanboy What a great storytelling image. It definitely makes you wonder what they are discussing and seeing. The reflection of the archway is awesome, too.

6. @Mark0 What a cute little guy in his big hat! I love toddlers (though am thankfully past that stage with my own kids! :p). I do wish there was a bit more to this, maybe something in his hand, or more of a side view with his face. However, I still love the idea of the little person in the big wide world and all that lies before them.

7. @jkramerbob So great. I love the quiet softness of this, all the while the viewer can tell that it's likely very noisy, but yet the ballplayer can tune it all out. I would recrop it if possible to straighten it so that it doesn't feel like we are falling down to the right (I'm very picky about horizon lines). Great moment.

8. @deep diver A ver similar image to J. Kramer's, the studious athlete. I think you caught a great expression. For this, I would have loved to have seen a wider angle, to show the motion and game still being played with him on the sidelines; or maybe a cast/crutch, etc. since you said he was injured. I would not have gathered that from the story in the photo itself, without the accompanying words. But a great image of determination.

9. @dwfaust super cute kids. love the braids and the peering through the banisters. Again, I personally would have liked this slightly wider to give the viewer a sense of what the kids are looking at, but it is still very adorable snap of a precious age.

10. @Indydenny OMG. The expressions on their faces, especially the girl on the left. Fantastic. I think the only thing better would have been seeing her at the moment of coming off, which seems imminent! (But I hope she hung on! :))

11. @georgeinnj So I originally viewed this image on my phone and thought that it would have been a better image if you'd scooched over so the post didn't divide the couple, but then when i saw it larger on my computer, I realized that it is framed perfectly. Very telling.

12. @Alexander.Of.Oz My only question is, where's his fish???

13. @webbga Kids do the funniest things sometimes. I would have liked to have seen this from a more head on, photographer crouched kind of perspective, to "see" the thought process of the boy. Also the notion of seeing him more in his surroundings. I hope he got the rock where he wanted it!

14. @someoldguy Kids literally in a candy store! How awesome! The reflected holiday lights in the windows really add to the whimsy of this image and add in a special sense of magic. Just perfect.

I've never done the critiques for this thread before, so I hope I was in line with what was expected! Thanks everyone for participating; I love storytelling images!

With much teeth gnashing on my part, here are my top three (but really I had a bunch of ties for places and wanted to list more!):

Wow! erm. wow! Didnt expect this at all. So many great entries!

I agree about the timing and I have one where they are further along BUT..... then the now infamous Irn Bru bottle showed more and I was trying to hide it a bit.

As for your critique, it is exactly that so it is completely your call and your opinion. I think you did great - and not because you chose my image.
[doublepost=1500325126][/doublepost]New comp up already.... :)

Hey , thanks for the 2nd , and congrats to @kenoh and @georgeinnj ! My pic was taken on my annual Christmas store window trip to Manhattan .Usually I try to avoid people in my images but these 2 little kids were transfixed by something in that window and weren't going anywhere . Not my kids (mine are MUCH older (think closing in on GASP!! 40)

Philadelphia.
congrats to the winners. Great job judging and thanks for the feedback.
I wanted to make this image more about his expression rather than the injury. If you look over his right shoulder you can see his crutches and his right arm holding onto them.

You did an EXCELLENT job in critiques. Well done @mollyc! And excellent choices for the podium. I'm sure the redhead in @kenoh's photo swayed the final vote ;)

Well done to the winners this week, a good range of storytelling from everybody really.

I wish the waves had have been a little bigger to really tell the story of this little lad running away in fear of getting wet, but it is what it is. I still enjoy looking at it from time to time.

Thanks for the feedback. and well done to all the entries.

As someone who doesn't shoot people I found this week a challenging one, but thats what I like about these competitions. Gets us out of our comfort zone.

A lot of great submissions for this contest and congratulations to Kenoh and someoldguy. Thank you Molly for taking that second look on my submission. I didn't think it would get much consideration since you have to look at it in two stages, first overall to get that deserted look of the restaurant and then a close up of the couple not engaging, to get what is going on. One thing I would like to have done was to have gotten the focus on the couple rather than the railing on the front of the restaurant, but there was quite a bit of traffic on the road so it was just those brief few seconds when I took the shot that there weren't cars or people walking across the front of the restaurant.
