@piatigorsky : What a precious image of this pet. Having chosen to shoot with black and white film really leaves a lot to the imagination, but I think it really brings out the kitty's big eyes. At first I thought the cat looked startled, but the more I studied it he looks more curious as cats are famous for. Nice capture.
This was actually taken in a cat cafe in a suburb near Taipei. This kitten seemed particularly curious about the big chunky camera with a whirring motor and popped by my table to have a look, so I managed to take a few quite close-up shots in a row. The film itself definitely helped enhance the look: Double-X is noted for its really punchy contrast and ability to be pushed (Kodak's tech specs say to treat it as ASA 250 when shooting movies, which gives it an immediately recognizable look, for example the b&w scenes in last year's Oppenheimer, but I've always used it at much higher speeds when shooting still photos), which really helped in this case as I had to shoot in a very dimly lit room where flash was not allowed.

Thank you Glen for coming through in a clutch. No worries if you can't get the next contest up in exactly 48 hours under the circumstances.

The portrait I posted is from a Instagram photo meet in downtown Chicago, we used to have them monthly, but sadly after the Covid pandemic the groups pretty much disbanded. She was one of about 15 models that came out for portraits that day. The photo is very striking and I spend time with it every time I come across it, wondering about her story. There was a ton of photographers trying to shoot, so you had to get your shots and move on, so no time to really have a conversation 😀
