This weeks theme - Home

So I'm currently selling the house where I've lived for 17 years. I had to re do the photos the agents photographer did as they were awful (don't think he understood WB!). Anyway kind of got me thinking about home and what it would look like in a photograph. So the idea is not to post a picture of your house, but something that means home to you. An object, a person or whatever comes to mind. Also I've had to extend it slightly as I'll be in Germany for a few days next week working. Hope that's okay.

Standard rules apply:

· The photographs must be your own work.

· Be creative and have fun.

· You may only submit one photo per contest.

· Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

· The contest runs for a week and starts now!

· At the end of the week, last week’s winner will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.

· If the winner is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

· The 1st place winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

· Please update the Weekly Contest Master List when you post a new contest.

Here's an example of Mrs AFB setting up a photo for me to take of one of her craft projects.

Another theme that sounds easy but is going to be really hard.

Interesting twist on the subject. You do realize that I am a Real Estate Photographer and have a whole hard drive full on homes. Fully understand what you were talking about, generally referred to as 'some guy with a camera' that undercuts you on price but forget about color balance, straight verticals (Rule #1), and blown out windows, etc. I will focus on the expanded topic, but for you perusal, here is my professional website. http://www.imagesforrealestate.com Enjoy, and have a good time in Germany.

I don't think he was referring to professionals like yourself who will turn out a proper product.

Here in the UK if you have an ordinary sized and priced property to sell, your estate agent is the guy with the camera, usually an entry level Nikon or Canon with a wide angle lens to make your lounge seem larger.
The last time we put our house up for sale the agent proudly announced he'd just been on a photography course with his company, then totally made a mess of the photos ;)

Cheers :)

Understandable, when I sold my house in Thetford in 1988, I think the estate agent fee was 1.5% which was the norm. Don't know if still that level, but in some countries, such as Canada and Australia, it is the owner that pays rather than the estate agent. In the US, even if @ 6%, Realtors are basically cheap and attempt it themselves...and it shows. I am one of the rare - Realtor and photographer (and getting better at video) - using it to my advantage.

I already have my photo identified but will see if can improve on it.

Entry level Nikon. Tamron lens.
But it was all auto and j-peg.

The gear would have been fine if he knew how to set his WB or expose properly.
I merged my shots to get the exposure right for interior and windows.
Impossible to do if you don’t bring a tripod.

He was someone who worked for the estate agent and got paid £50 a shoot. He basically tried to do it as cheaply and quickly as possible.

I’m lost. Not sure what I can do this week. Have to think about it hard.

People dropping out left and right! That’s great news! Less work for me. ;)

Famous last words. You know that experience says an ambush is coming.

Here's mine..... Spiritual Home

"Beyond Disney" The working title of a book thinking about creating in retirement. People flock to Disney and the other attractions and think they have seen Orlando and Florida. As a multi-generation (4 and possibly longer) native Floridian, it is my home and I know better. Kayaking on the Wekiva River, a State Park within the Orlando metro area which includes swimming in the originating springs where no boats are allowed. Tourist have no idea about - thankfully.
