This weeks topic is BLUE . The color , not a state of melancholia . Let's see what you can do when your image has lots of blue .

Contest ends @ 12PM EDT (NYC) on July 7 , 2022

Please remember that these standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. In keeping with our most recent tradition, violators may be awarded first place. Henceforth this shall be known as the Molly-ing rule in honour of our friend and fellow perpetrator.
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.

Just a disclaimer before my commentary .... Remember that my comments are from an old fart with bifocals and the start of cataracts and that no sentient being should get upset by them ( the comments , not the bifocals or cataracts).

@Strider64 - Thats' great ! He sure is blue ; but I'm curious as to whether the rest of the image was naturally monochromatic , or whether you used layering to put the bird on the background , or vice-versa .

@TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 - An interesting looking local eatery ( the best kind) ! Have you eaten here? What is Cali-Caribbean cuisine?

@Snowlover - He Flies!!! Nice action capture , much better than I can do . Is he in training to be Rudolph's stand-in ?

@OldMacs4Me - Nice blue skies and puffy clouds . Did you try to get rid of the power lines and pole (if possible)?

@Jumpthesnark - That's interesting ... Bowling Balls? Did they let you play around with it? Looks much more entertaining than the Newton's Cradle we had in school .

@Clix Pix - Nicely done macro ! I've got some blueberry bushes in my back yard and always look forward to this time of the year to be able to go out and pick a bowl full for my breakfast cereal !

@tizeye - A Halloween thing ? or maybe an explosion in a Silly String Factory . Looks like fun ; was the color in the 'cobwebs' , or was it from external lighting , or were they flourescing?

@Apple_Glen_UK - Wide Open Space !! Looks like there's big tides there . The rock shelving in the foreground works well with the vastness of the rest of the composition .

@mollyc - Deep Blue . The 2 houses on the left remind me of the great old houses down the Shore (in NJ ) . But it's not ; North Carolina , maybe? Time for friends , wine , and munchies as the sun goes down !

@oblomow - It's Greek to me (Ukranian to everyone else) . I've seen similar signs (but different languages ) elsewhere and always wondered why they were in the language of the country being entered rather than that of the country being entered from .

@Janichsan - Bluebells ? Lots of blue , not much depth of field . Gotta shoot wide open once in a while !

How do you judge when you liked all of them? So there'll be a couple of ties ...

3rd - @Apple_Glen_UK , and @tizeye

2nd - @mollyc , and @Strider64

1st - @Clix Pix

Thanks to all the entrants , and special thanks for the fact that no one entered a Microsoft BSOD ...

@Clix Pix , its all yours .

(and yes @oblomow , I remembered )

Thanks for the 3rd place position and congratulations to all.

Yes, Halloween. The city has a "Carnival of Screams" activity, and our camera club gets exceptional access to events that we document in exchange for free meeting space at the community center that the city charges groups $150/night. As such, I could enter all areas independently not open to the general public other than guided groups. Dress in black so don't stand out and great time to experiment with low light photography. It was blue lighting against the white "cobwebs". Lighting varied throughout and this was one of the few that was blue.

yes, my photo was taken a summer or two ago in NC. 🙂 We went to the same location for three years in a row, so not sure which year this was! we went to a different beach this year.

Congrats to all @Clix Pix is a worthy winner.

This was one of those images where I turned my back to my main subject, saw something I liked and grabbed a snap. Honestly I did not think about the powerlines as I was rather preoccupied with the slaughter of mosquitoes. The lines would be easy enough to remove post process, but for whatever reason I chose not to.

Yikes! I wasn't expecting to win! So many really interesting entries this time and varied interpretations of the theme! Congratulations to my fellow podium mates and everyone who participated.

After I finished doing the shoot, I rinsed off my subjects again and enjoyed them. So delicious, the taste of summer..... :D

OK, well, I'll have to give some thought to what would be an interesting and challenging topic for this next week..... Back later!
