Summer vacation season is upon us in the northern hemisphere and road trips are a great expression of our personal freedom. Show us where you've been lately or previously if you haven't been anywhere lately. Not a requirement, but I'm curious to see how you got there with vehicle in picture (RV, car, motorbike, bicycle, wheelchair, VW camper, bus ...)
After the last contest, many have been asking, "Are we there yet?"
Yes, we have arrived!

Same rules apply as always:

The photographs must be your own work.
  • Be creative and have fun.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!
  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

Haven't really been anywhere for a while, but this was a 'road trip' on New Years Eve. It is a road. Technically. I was taking photos while we were navigating the trail...

Out of curiosity, would you prefer to see a "pre-destination-en-route" photo, or a photo from the actual destination for this challenge? :) I have some en-route photos, but they look nothing like the ultimate destination, so not really a good "vacation" photo per se.

I think a road trip begins when you leave and doesn't end until you get back or reach your final destination. I hope that helps mollyc.

Hmmm....this is a good challenge! I have lots that fit the criteria, but it's hard to pick just one!

Think I recon the road...is it maybe city of hardanger? You should have tried "path of the trolls" ,norways most iconic mountain road.

This is rv63, the beginning road from Geiranger to Valldal. The one you're thinking of is Trollstiegen which is further out on rv63 closer to Andalsnes. I saw it but didn't drive it as it was a tourist mess. But basically, every road up/down a mountain are full of the hairpin turns.

I thought I seen it before, was from different angle, though. Outside the hostel on top of the hill is an excellent view platform, where you see the town and a part of the fjord. I drove exactly that road about 4 years ago.
I can agree that trollstigen is a tourist mess, been there a few times.

around the world
Between 2004 and 2005 I travelled around the world through many countries. I have to many pictures to choose from. After looking for a while I took this one of myself shoot at Cape Reinga in New Zealand.

From Wikipedia
Cape Reinga (/riˈæŋə/) or Te Rerenga Wairua (Māori) [1] is the northwesternmost tip of the Aupouri Peninsula, at the northern end of the North Island of New Zealand. Cape Reinga is more than 100 km north of the nearest small town of Kaitaia. State Highway 1 extends all the way to the Cape, but until 2010 was unsealed gravel road for the last 19 km.[2] Suitable vehicles can also travel much of the way via Ninety Mile Beach and Te Paki stream bed.

It is the last day for this round.
I'm really enjoying the amazing entries so far!
If you've been on the fence on what to submit, just close your eyes and pick one out already.
