Bullet train. More precisely the Nozomi Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hakata.

Must be late, lady in the foreground not looking best pleased!

Well, it took a while to get back from work. Sorry to all who are annoyed with the wait.

Let's begin. This is by no means scientific or professional...

stillcrazyman: It's always intimidating to the rest when someone starts off with a real zinger. I like many aspects of this picture, from the arrangement, the film like sepia tone and the character of the Jeeps. They could be a herd of elephants meandering along the track.

Haven't really been anywhere for a while, but this was a 'road trip' on New Years Eve. It is a road. Technically. I was taking photos while we were navigating the trail...

DSC06819-X2.jpg

kenoh: I'm very impressed you got this scene. The dynamic range lets us make out the details in the shadows where the switchback turns right back underneath (is that a pickup with a ladder down below?) - the motion blur in the foreground makes it seem so fleeting - and the mountain puts everything in scale. Including the photographer in the reflection makes this a great photo to sum up a trip in one frame.

Zion NP, roadtrip. One of the few of my images that come anywhere close to capturing the scale of this place. View attachment 704008

needfx: This picture is leaving me with a feeling of hitting the road in a classic British or Italian convertible. Adventure, intrigue and clean hands because the gloves will help when dealing with the breakdown. That must be an automatic timepiece. That blurred background including in the mirror is interesting.

mollyc: You chose and interesting one. I must have dozens of wasted pictures trying to capture a similar scene at dusk or dawn, with the sun between the clouds. They never turn out the way my eyes take in the scene. The sunburst at the leading edge with the ray of light reaching around the end of the wing tip caught me eye.
I take a zillion and three quarters vacation photos on every trip we take (I'm also a scrapbooker). It was hard to choose just one!

Stefan johansson: Ok so what's the story behind this scene? It has to be pretty good. I've found one old car abandoned in the forest before but a whole road full of cars! I had to see the picture to believe it, so now imagining all kinds of story lines which end in that scene.
Well,it was a road trip once.... View attachment 704150

rx7dude: The movie Vanishing Point was in black and white. This it in colour, with a white Challenger just about to enter the scene blast down the road. This has an interesting composition of elements that balance and play off each other: the rich green of the field and grass alternating with the reflective black of the road and the dark forest and that spectacular sky.

E3BK: The water, the village the road *That Road* and the mountain covered in cloud. Slartibartfast was a genius. Dreaming of roads like that is the reason why I've always had a manual car, you know just by chance if I happen to stumble one. I took some pictures of Norway recently and I found it hard to fit all of it so well, like you did here.
From my Norway Road Trip last year.

Yesterday's Drive

someoldguy: Do you happen to be in the postcard business? Somewhere in this scene, there is a roadrunner, a coyote, and 100kgs of TNT. I'm enjoying your finishing treatment which gives me a feeling of being a kid in the back of a big Roadmaster "fake woody" wagon, on the way to the Grand Canyon.

oblomow: I'm always a little jealous of others leaving on a trip. Where was this picture taken? I just see forests and no buildings. I haven't been successful at getting the whole plane in the frame either.

Janichsan: The train on the diagonal across the frame, vanishing down the platform makes this picture for me. And it has such a serious face, all business about speed and efficiency. Japan is on the list of places to go...one day. This scene seems so familiar and far away at the same time.
Not necessarily a road trip in the truest meaning of the word and taken years ago with a rather crappy camera, but here you go:

DBh6IeF.jpg

Indydenny: Classic framing of the route ahead and a similar approach to a couple others entries except, of course, this is water and not a road. The processing and saturation make it seem a little fantasy like. The combination of brown, green and blue cheer my mood.
My "Road Trip" today -- (sort of)

Apple fanboy: needfx needs to be driving this car. Do you have any info about it? I bet it could tell some stories. It is the star of the picture obviously - what a great color along with reflections and sparkles and flare off the paint brightwork. Dou you know what is causing the darkness in the centre background?
Doesn't matter where you are going, just arrive in style!

CmdrLaForge: When someone asks me where I'd like to revisit, NZ is my answer. This is one of the reasons why - you can always find a route less traveled and friendly locals along the way. Looks like average NZ weather, fog, wing and sunshine all at once.
Between 2004 and 2005 I travelled around the world through many countries. I have to many pictures to choose from. After looking for a while I took this one of myself shoot at Cape Reinga in New Zealand.

CmdrLaForge: I love the colours with the setting (or rising?) sun along with the sepia finish. This is a great composition to my eye, with the implied curve of the shore going off the frame to the left, the weight of the water in the middle and the figure of the child spanning over the rocks, ocean, and sky in the right foreground. I wish I had like this od one of my kids.

Thanks for the kind words @zaphodtheprez! I was only able to get that shot from the ferry. It was indeed tricky to get it all in.

Also, I wouldn't say anyone was annoyed by the delay. It just seems to be happening more often these days. Everyone is very busy, including participants so I think we should still do a 48 hour juding rule to keep it fair and courteous to all, just as we have a time frame for the winner to put up the new contest.

Congrats to @kenoh for the win!! It was my favorite as well. But this was an excellent topic for the contest and enjoyed everyones entires.

Congratulations to the winners. There were so many absolutely stunning shots this time, I really wouldn't had to be the one to pick.

Thanks for starting the next thread so quickly kenoh.
I'm just re-reading my post, after a good rest, and laughing off the typos and errors - I was going on 36hrs straight without sleep when I posted.
Sorry Foogoofish for calling you CmdrLaForge.
I did check to make sure I got the top three right!

No worries - I have to say I was confused about my review until I understood it is not my picture you talk about.

Congrats to kenoh and to all who participated along with putting up with my delay.
Thanks for the feedback. Not annoyed at the delay just conscious that the last few have drifted a bit.

My picture was taken at a stately Home. The owner just leaves his car there for people to admire, so I'm afraid I don't have any more details as it was a few years back.
The dodgy processing was down to my heavy hand back then (I was only just getting into photography). Maybe I should update the pp.

Well done to the winners. Some cracking shots as usual.
