I still can’t believe that I actually won the last contest, thanks a lot everyone and @mollyc . Keeping up with the tradition, here’s my topic of the week.

For some weird reason, I don’t seem to have taken many pictures of fire and smoke, so I wanted to see how all of you talented people capture a difficult subject like that. Especially because most of the times smoke seems to relate to poor lighting conditions.

As you all know, I only post pictures taken with whatever phone I’m carrying at that point. So yes, I’m eagerly waiting to see what you people have to show off here.

Also, don’t forget to mention if there’s any story attached to your submission.

As always, the rules are the same -

· You may only submit one photo per contest and the photograph must be your own work.
· Be creative, have fun with this!
· The contest runs for a week and starts now.
· At the end of the week, The Judge (me) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo. I will try to offer some feedback.
· The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

A different take on the theme...............

One of the definitions of smoke is "a pale to grayish blue color".

This is an example of Larimar, also called "Stefilia's Stone". It is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Its coloration varies. This example also has some smoke like textures.

This specimen was at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium.
