Right. Thats it... Comp closed. Now the real creativity begins....
[doublepost=1467294241][/doublepost]@Hughmac a superb start to the comp. Abstracting away the backdrop to enhance the vibrance of the colours. A lovely example of colour contrast. Nice placement, superb use of shutter speed to freeze the water droplets. Really nice.
@truettray superb macro shot of the stamens. Fantastic composition the maximise the colour contrast between the purple of the petals and the yellow centre. Fabulous vibrance.
@dwfaust nice bit of character from the garden. I really like looking at weathered garden items, those which have seen some storms. I really like this but maybe if it wasnt so tight to the left it would have been a tad more balanced.
@needfx a wonderful warm image that conjures up thoughts of summer evenings in the garden with a cold drink and no where to be. The sun peeking through the leaves. Ah... summertime... except i wish there was a sunstar.
@RedOctober what a wonderful image of dew on a web looking like fairy lights in the town square inviting you for some fun and frollicks. Lovely capture.
@Alexander.Of.Oz a truly wonderful abstract of an otherwise bland object. A great way to crank up the interesting details and make a wonderful hypnotic pattern. Fantastic.
@MacRy a lovely capture. Where RedOctobers is like fairy lights, yours is amazingly more structured and the details in the drops is great though I cannot work out if it is the back of a plant care instruction label, or the intentional reflection of a page of a book. Either way, really nice.
@InuNacho I am loving the texture of this image. The grittiness of it and the colours show the age of the damage. Very nice texture shot.
@inkmich keeping with the texture, nothing is more intriguing than distressed wood. So much detail and so much depth to it. Lovely image.
@CmdrLaForge wow. I think it is wood, maybe an aged trunk, the composition makes it look like a landscape and the B&W treatment adds added depth.
@applefanboy you say an average shot, I say above average, well above. The lighting is nicely done, the detail and texture is spot on and it has a feel to it that compels you to look at it more. Nicely done. Nice low key.
@anotherscotsman lovely image in its own right. Fantastic subject matter though I maybe would have lifted the exposure slightly to get more detail in the fruit. Lovely light and colours. I will allow it as it is in a garden and I didnt stipulate your own garden.
Ok, so, now the hard part. The standings.
3rd place @needfx
2nd place @applefanboy
1st place @CmdrLaForge
Thank you for a great turn out guys. A few people really stepped up to the plate. A good one to judge. Thank you.
Thank you very much @kenoh and congratulations to the winners.
Thanks for the positive write-up; as an afterthought there's so many better things I could have done to make this photo - using f/4 and upping the ISO a bit would have got better focus for example.
Anyway, fantastic entries, especially the winners
Cheers
Hugh

The buttercups? They were in a field 1/2 mile away from my garden. You should have posted the other flower shot... the one in POTD... would have changed the positions... ;-)

The actual entry was set up and taken specifically for this comp, and although I had two possibles to choose from I stand by my decision as it was the best I could do at the time (feeling rough - not meant to be an excuse), and I was pleased for myself to get something quite good out of it.
Cheers

Well done to everyone, especially the well-worthy winners. FWIW, Alexander's red string thing was my favourite - looked like it could be a (strange) flower at first glance.Right. Thats it... Comp closed. Now the real creativity begins....

Thanks for the second place Ken. Clearly you've let the sun get to you or you've had too much Portuguese wine!
There were some much better photos than mine!
Anyway the R1C1 Lighting kit is great for macro, but I'm too lazy to set it up a lot of the time. Anyway as this was in my garden thought I had no excuse! Nikon do make some loverly kit, just wish I could get to use it a bit more often and get the best out of it.
I really liked @RedOctober's web. Very nicely done.
Well done @CmdrLaForge for the win and @needfx for the podium.
Onto the next!
Even a broken watch is right twice a day!Yes Alex's shot had me staring at it for a few hours. I liked the geometry of it and the composition.

I am gonna quote Mr T here... never to be repeated so take notice...
Stop yo jibber jabber! It was a cracking shot. Low key, oodles of texture and a nicely composed position.... spot on...
Even a broken watch is right twice a day!
How's those sunset/sunrise shots coming on?
Sounds nice. Look forward to seeing them.Hmm... need to see how i do in post. Got some tonight of the cliffs lit up but the lights on the wooden walk way up to the hotel. Hoping to make them look nice... time will tell...
Sounds nice. Look forward to seeing them.
I'm off next week, but not going away.
Have a day trip on Monday to the Brecon Beacons, so weather permitting I should get some nice shots.
Congrats to the winners this week, well deserved! And thanks kenoh for judging superbly, appreciate your comments.
