Sorry if the commentary is a bit less comprehensive than usual but hopefully I can do your entries justice. Remember these are simply the personal views and opinions of a rank amateur - I recommend you seek professional advice before acting on the comments :)

@tizeye - a good example of the 'context' angle and I like the commanding view of the river estuary. Could perhaps do with a bit more of a view of the fort itself but certainly Florida from that sky and white sands.

More of the fort is why I posted the photo below in POTD. It was really a remote outpost "guard shack". 4 cannons and housing around 12 troops. Photo taken from the landing for the second floor - troop quarters. Sadly, I couldn't get to the roof. Not that I am overweight with a large girth, but the metal spiral stairs to a narrow roof opening wouldn't accept the camera gear dangling around me. It was very tight.

Ironically, it was built in 1740 following 2 unsuccessful British siege attempts of St Augustine in an attempt to control southern shipping lanes, not in the 1500's when the primary fort was built in St Augustine. During the 1500's it was the site of the Spanish massacre of the French troops caught in a hurricane and shipwrecked there...thus the name "Matanzas", the Spanish word for "slaughter". In the 1700's was a secondary port used for trade with Cuba and a bypass when the British blockaded the primary port in St Augustine, about 15 miles away. Today, you can visit it for free as it is supported by admissions to the 1500's fort in St Augustine and park rangers ferry you across the river/inlet. (Highly recommend the highway A1A drive along the coast from St Augustine to Daytona Beach - convertible top down)
