Thanks for the backstop. I'll give it some time and decide tomorrow but I'd like to do it.
One thing that I have done is look at the Master List thread where all past contests are archived. With then concisely listed, you will have a list of past topics to draw ideas from - if not repeating something done years ago, a topic you can do a variation of, as was the current contest.

@deep diver Thanks for judging , and providing commentary , and congratulations/condolences to @redshifted for the win. Just as a FYI , my image was taken a few years back , right near the intersection of US 45 and NM 3 in Duran, New Mexico . The tracks parallel the highway and are arrow straight for miles and miles and miles.

Laird Knox – This is a very interesting take on the theme. It is imaginative, playful, and fun. There is a tension between the chaotic look of the buildings at the bottom third and orderly look of the towers above them. The “FUN CITY” signs add an additional playful element.
Thanks for the notes. This was a test shot and for me the fun part was that it was shot on film. It is a triple exposure on large format, 4" x 5" B&W film. A few days later I went back about ten o'clock at night and got run off by the Fun City Motel's desk clerk. I wasn't on their property but I wan't going to get into a fight over it. I think the big tripod and camera was scaring off his crack customers. The end result of the tests was this 8-exposure image of the Stratosphere.

I had also considered entering this light painting excursion on the railroad tracks.

If you note the watermark in the corner you can see that the Stratosphere image ended up becoming my logo of sorts.

Thanks for judging this week's contest. There were some great images.

I really liked the colors from the different light sources. I'm guessing sodium vapor and metal halide on the platforms and a tungsten white balance in the image.

Cheers Laird - the cityscape itself is fine but not very interesting but the colours are what make it for me too. I'd say your light sourcing was spot-on. I colour corrected the image for the buildings based on tungsten and let the other light sources do their own thing - amazing how the human eye/brain automatically corrects for this sort of mixed lighting so that we don't really perceive this when we look at a scene like this.
