Thank you. I will come up with a new theme tomorrow. Some nice shots as ever.

I watched these eggs being laid and as they develop you can see the initially uniform green soup turn into a small, mostly black caterpillar at which point it hatches out. The caterpillar munches away at the hop, grows and grows before creating a chrysalis. This then hatches and the butterfly emerges fresh and orange.

As with all nature photography, observing the organism is half the challenge.

Congratulations leighonigar, that's a great shot. Some lovely photos this week. Look forward to seeing what the next topic's going to be!

Apple Fanboy : Another cooperative bug . Nice reflections off its shell , and a nice , plain background . Taken with the 18-55?

Thanks for taking the time to post all the feed back. The bugs were all over the park bench and were being very competitive. I love Macro photography, but as the sig says don't really have the kit for it at the moment. Should be getting Nikon 60mm Macro lens soon though. Now I just have to think about lighting.

Thanks for the great job of adjudicating this week, someoldguy. Congrat's to you leighonigar, for a great study of butterfly eggs. Really good detail in there. Some great diversity and interpretation of tiny in amongst this weeks entries! Looking forward to next weeks theme.

Too much good stuff here .....

fitshaced : The kayaker soon to be dwarfed by the bridge . Nice reflection off the water . Taken from another kayak with a long lens? But wait…. There’s more !!!
Is that a tiny Sydney Opera House in the background? Hopefully , Reynolds’ The Sands of Time was on the card when this picture was shot.

up

Cheers, actually it was a GoPro on the back of my ski.

Great judging. Well done to third second and first.

Keleko : You’ve captured an image that I’ve attempted several times but with little success . I’m jealous!!! I like the way the spider is framed in white . Did you use any kind of fill light to accentuate the dew?

I've been wondering if anyone would ask. :) The web and spider I lit with my Canon 580EX II in a soft box behind the web and to camera right a bit. It was completely cloudy and dull out, so I used the strobe to punch up the light and color of the tree and make the dew sparkle. The white spot is the sky behind the spider through a gap in the trees in the far background.

The image on the camera lcd looks very close to the finished product. I did some levels/exposure adjustment and detail enhancement on the spider itself in post processing.

So , The winners are:

1st: Leighonigar

2nd: Alexander of Oz

3rd: tie : butch10x and acearchie

Leighonigar ..... you're up

Congrats to the winners!

Roadbloc : Just some comments , not judging this . Maybe better centering ?
Also , maybe changing the hand position some so the left part of the figure’s cape doesn’t get lost in the beckground . The object itself is nice and clear though . Did you REALLY use 3 – 600EX’s ? Enough….back in the corner.

Well, finally back!

Below was the original concept I was working on, but wasn't really happy with it.

Yes, lit with 3x 600ex, controlled by a st e3 rt. One key, one fill, one background.

cheerios

I'm chipping in for once with two comma butterfly eggs. Developing larvae just visible, floating in their green soup, glued to the edge of a hop's leaf. To the naked eye these are glistening, smooth, emerald,

Nikon V1, FT-1, Sigma 50mm F/2.8 Macro. Hand-held, available light.

Congrats Leigh - nice capture.

LongSticks : C’mon … you can’t fool me . That poor lady’s average size and you’re a giant ! Does SHE know you posted her as TINY ? Might be sleeping on the couch for this one .

Leighonigar ..... you're up

Glad you saw the humour. When we saw the photo after getting back from Cuba, we pissed ourselves laughing!!!!! For the record, my dearest is 5'1" and I'm 6'6"....match made in heaven! And she's good with it...I think! :D
