Weekly photo contest, Oct 15-22 2018: The Night

I'm a big fan of night time photography but not very good at it so definitely in need of some insight and inspiration. This theme really opens the doors to interpretation so feel free to get creative. It could be a moonlit scene, fireworks in the sky, a moody side street under street lighting or an expansive starscape. Astro shots are definitely welcome but please keep from full on Astrophotography as that is a whole theme on its own and a little too specialised. Please keep to the basics of regular cameras, lenses and tripods and post processing and avoid the likes of telescopes and tracking mounts etc.

As per normal...
  • The photographs must be of your own creation.

  • Explore, get creative and have fun with it.

  • You may only submit one photo per weekly contest round.

  • Please do not comment on any photos until after the judging has taken place.

  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!

  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as they possibly can.

  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

  • Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

Out of curiosity, is it okay to have an image shot at dawn, rather than full on night? I don't have one, but surprisingly had an idea for something I wanted to shoot this week anyway. Is the idea just a "dark sky" image?

No, should be fine so go for it. Technically dawn still has elements of the night and I can't really offer more until seeing the image. As long as there are no spiders I'm good! ;)

Having a play with Lightroom CC Classic's latest update of HDR Panoramas. This is the end result of 4 frames, each with 3 exposure bracketed shots, so 12 frames total, making a hand-held 180 degree HDR panorama. Given the ultra-wide angle distortion at play & me being hand-held, I am impressed.

On one side it's night time already, on the other side it's the last vestiges of sunset.
