This was just a superb group of entries and I am so thankful I didn't have to be the one to evaluate and judge them all! Congratulations to Laird Knox and MarkO, with special congratulations to AnotherScotsman! Well done, everyone.....
Quite an unusual capture and it works well for me. I'm assuming this was a long exposure with you hopping in and out of frame? The lowered saturation and slight motion give it an ethereal look
Thanks. I took the picture about an hour, maybe one and a half before sunrise, so there was already astronomical twilight. The sky was even brighter in the picture straight out of the HDR treatment, and I darkened it quite a bit already.@Janichsan
Interesting subject and composition - I love the angles in the building and the overall abstraction. I think I would have preferred to have seen a darker sky to really convey that night element. Great shot though.
@anotherscotsman's picture was my favourite as well. But apart from that I really would have had a hard time picking the rest of th winners. Too many great photos…- @Laird Knox
A well executed shot that has a real visual impact.
2nd - @Mark0
A fantastically well presented image and a great take on the theme.
1st - @anotherscotsman
Something about this image just draws me in and I found myself coming back to it upon multiple viewings.
Well deserved.Just looked in out of interest to see who had won - very surprised to see it was me! Great entries from everyone and a few that I certainly thought of as winners in particular @Laird Knox, @Mark0 and InkMich. I've managed to get to Nelson on one occasion and would love to get the chance for a session at night (with or without LairdKnox!).
Great competition and feedback from @Donka, many thanks for the placement and thanks to everyone for their kind comments.
Photo was a 4-sec exposure from a bridge over the M56 in Cheshire where there was a sunset over the top of a layer of fog.
I've already got an idea for the next competition based on recent travels. Watch this space....

Weekly Photo Contest: Oct 23-Oct 30 : By firelight
Thanks for taking the time to judge the contest. I'm glad I didn't win as I was out last week.@Laird Knox
Wow! This is an awesome shot. This wasn't in my mind at all when I thought about the theme but it is a hugely impressive picture. Great subject and location but the lighting is superb and really makes the image. This looks more like a movie set in a studio than real life and I mean that as a compliment.
Nelson is an interesting place. They keep adding more builds, vehicles, and rusty junk. Normally you can't photograph there at night - they have lots of lights, cameras and motion sensors. I'm lucky that the professor that teaches the night photography classes at CSN usually asks if I want to tag along when they do a field trip out there. I haven't shot much in the last two years so it was nice to get back in the groove.Just looked in out of interest to see who had won - very surprised to see it was me!
