Okay, photographs literally do one thing - capture a moment in time. People often try to capture that perfect moment when something is in its prime. I want to see photographs depicting things that have seen better days. It could be a rusting car, a crumbling building, an old wooden boat that is rotting away. No people pictures though - aged faces make great images but for me fall under portraiture instead of this theme.

Be creative and have fun with this one folks!
Cheers, Andy.

As per normal...
  • The photographs must be of your own creation.

  • Explore, get creative and have fun with it.

  • You may only submit one photo per weekly contest round.

  • Please do not comment on any photos until after the judging has taken place.

  • The contest runs for one week, starting NOW!

  • At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as they possibly can.

  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline for close, then a vote will be carried out to select a winner. This will be based on the number of "likes" each image has. In the event of a draw, the second place winner from the previous week will choose the tiebreaker.

  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

  • Winners please update the Weekly Photo Contest Master thread

I think you made yourself a tough one. I’m expecting some good work this round.

Canon AE-1, Ektachrome around 1987. Sorry, don't have any photos when was originally built to show level of decay.

How about a decaying town? This is Nanxun, China. The old historic centre is kept at a fragile balance between sturdy enough that it doesn’t collapse, but weathered enough that it can claim to have an authenticity which is hard to come by in such a rapidly growing and rapidly changing country.

Shot at sunrise. People work and live here still, and western tourists are quite rare (I’ve only seen one other all day).

PS. You should go see China. It’s not like you imagine, and it’s not like you see on tv.

I had nothing really good fitting the topic in my library, so I went out today and photographed so… much… rotting… wood.

Here's a detail of a large fallen tree in a public park, which had been left to show the natural process of wood decaying.
