Well folks, not long to go now and great work so far so many thanks for that. I'll close this week's competition on Sunday @ 6pm UK time. It's my youngest's birthday tomorrow so I won't be on till later but I've been taking notes as images have been posted and I will get a result up tomorrow at some point with feedback.

Okay, time to draw this one to a close and announce the winners.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to submit an image so I think it is only fair I make the time to offer some feedback on each image. I took these notes at the first time of viewing each image so it was my initial impressions and I have tried to be candid about what works for me. Please do not take this as anything other than constructive though because I am merely an amateur writing out my thoughts and I’m a bit of a straight shooter. Everyone has their own thoughts about what makes an image work which is what makes photography, and indeed people, interesting. People will disagree and I’m all for that.

And with that out of the way, onto the images…

@Hughmac
Certainly fits the theme and is a vivid image with a good balance of colours. I would just love to see the main subject in the image stand out a little more - perhaps taken from a slightly more side on angle and a little closer in.

@tizeye
A nicely balanced image, I love the old school colours. Unfortunately these are so old and that is how people always view them so it is hard to impart any true level of decay.

@kenoh
Captures the theme really well as you can compare one and how it is failing compared to the other. A little tight on the framing but because I know this causeway well, I appreciate it is impossible to isolate the two spikes without the tight crop.

@tcphoto1
I love this subject - it is exactly what is in my mind when I think of this theme and it has real character and charm. I think I would have been inclined to make the colours of the van pop a bit more since it has that rich red colour.

@someoldguy
Fits the theme well. I think this is a hard shot to frame though due to the surrounding foliage which is a separate component in the image and is a little distracting to me.

@AllergyDoc
Another shot that fits the theme really well. Going tight on the interior is a smart move as it lets you pick up on the detail of the vehicle as well as the damage to the vivid paintwork.

@deep diver
A well presented shot. The styling of this image really help convey a sense of age. The only criticism I have is the processing bleaches out a lot the natural decay in the subject - more of an old photograph look instead of an aged subject if that makes sense?

@oblomow
Another shot that is bang on the theme. I think it is unfortunate that the building blends in a little too much with the backdrop and loses it’s impact as a result - I concede hard to avoid using natural light.

@akash.nu
Great subject and I love the tones in this black & white. I love that the castle is both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time - is that technically possible? One small gripe is the tourist information on the right of the image - I would have been inclined to clone that out but would have been a pain with the fencing.

@mollyc
Another lovely image as to be expected - I’m a big fan of your macro work. I would love to see even more of the decay in this shot, perhaps tighter in or a flower that is in a more advanced state of ageing.

@Darmok N Jalad
Definitely right on point with the theme. For me I would have liked to be closer in on the subject - perhaps filling most of the frame with the house and one of the cars to really show it being overrun?

@themumu
A beautiful and tranquil place, well shot. I’m struggling with the beauty of the location to link it to my interpretation of the theme though.

@malofx
It’s a nice shot of what must be a very interesting place and for that alone I’m jealous. For me, the photo is not capturing the decay I’m sure is all too present in person - maybe a case of ‘you had to be there’?

@Laird Knox
A fascinating image - I’m a big fan of these old war birds. I’m struggling to make out much in the way of decay though - it looks more like an old photograph of an aircraft in decent shape even though it looks like there is no cockpit glass etc.

@Janichsan
Lot’s of ageing and decay going on there - certainly fits the theme really well. Perhaps a little too well as my eyes are drawn all over the image and no once place really stands out as a focal point.

@CmdrLaForge
A decent shot at first glance but it really does impress when you click out to the full size image. On theme, fantastic colours / lighting and an interesting composition.

@anotherscotsman
I love this image, the colours and lighting just come across as so honest and it absolutely nails the theme!

@The Bad Guy
I’m a massive fan of your photographs and this is no exception. I can’t pass judgement though because the first rule of the weekly photography contest is do not talk about the weekly photography contest. The second rule of this week’s photography contest is no people pictures! ;)

@cogi0490
Solid image - captures the theme well. I love the textures on display. Points off for having a spider in the frame though! :)

@AppleKarma
Rusting… Leaking… Weathered… Broken Fence. Bang on theme. I think the composition would work better for me if the broken wood was not obscuring some of the valve since that carries a lot of character.

@E3BK
I’m really liking this image - I think it is framed well and the whole image has a richness to it.

@Alexander.Of.Oz
Another lovely image, a classy take on the theme with nice composition and lighting. I love the colours from the spray can but the detail seems a little lost in the softness - not sure if that was intentional or not but I would love to be able to make out some of the texture from the rusting.

@Apple fanboy
Superb image. Bang on theme, great texture in the image and I love the tones.

Thanks again for everyone taking the time to submit images - very much appreciated. I got down to a top nine pretty quickly and then struggled back and forth over the top three. I didn’t realise how tough this was going to be so deliberated a fair bit in my mind. Some minor tweaks to some of the images could easily have brought a new podium.
Decision time though so…

3rd - @CmdrLaForge
I really like this image and it captures the theme in a bright and natural fashion.

2nd - @anotherscotsman
Nothing seems forced on this image, it just seems like a wholly honest interpretation of the theme.

1st - @Apple fanboy
The last entry and turned out to be my favourite after multiple viewings. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it was beyond my initial summary, the photo just works for me.

Thanks again and over to @Apple fanboy

As always, a wealth of great entries but you certainly picked my winner - AFB’s shot is one of my all-time favourites in MR.

Thank you for the kind words @Donka. It was a great topic that I hope we get to do again in the future. Great job on judging. The whole point of these is not necessarily to just win but for us to improve as a collective. That can only come when judges are able to give feedback for everyone. Easier said than done, of course, and not always possible but the effort is always appreciated.

And the winning image from @Apple fanboy is a perfect choice. Looking forward to the next one! I'm hoping to start participating again as The Project That Took Over My Life is now over. :)

Thank you very much for the kind words and overall fantastic judgement. My picture was shot with my iPhone SE. I am usually a DSLR user but they say the best camera is the one that is with you and that was the only I had with me.
