The topic this week is "Backcountry".

I looked at the Masters List and did not see this specific topic, lots of Landscape type themes.
Here are 2 definitions of backcountry to get the juices flowing:
What is "Backcountry"? (via google search)
1) A sparsely populated rural region remote from a settled area.
2) Backcountry camping is camping in remote places with no facilities, rather than on campsites. Exploration and escape are the fundamental attractions of backcountry camping.

I'm open to your interpretation of "Backcountry" for this contest, having both backcountry like elements with human elements (people or items).

So get creative and have fun!

Contest ends September 19 at 12 am (midnight) GMT +2 hours.

Please remember that these standard rules apply:
  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced.
  • The photographs must be your own work. In your submission please specify place taken, and if you have a "title" for the photograph specify that also.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, please check the title or description.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
A sample of this week's theme comes from a Backcountry catalog I have:

Sounds like a beautiful theme! Can't wait to see photos. But I am too much of a fan of modern conveniences that I've never been camping without facilities!

Is the camping a necessary component, or does a desolate trail qualify with no sign of people?

Camping is NOT at all a requirement, I'm open to your interpretation of "Backcountry" for this contest, desire is having both backcountry like elements with human elements (people or items).

I gave 2 definitions of backcountry to get the juices flowing, I'll update them above as to match:

The south east of England is the most densely populated area of the UK, but within that I live in the countryside, which is more sparse, and with small villages amongst lots of green spaces.
However, there are always signs of human habitation and activity everywhere around.

My photo is of a willow tree by a pond; about as wild as it gets around here, so if it does not fit the brief please let me know and I will remove it.

My wife and I live in the "backcountry", 13 miles from the nearest small town (Alpine CA.) and 3/4 miles off the pavement down in a sequestered little "holler" bordering national forest.
While we do have well water and septic, electricity and internet (cell phone tethering), we heat our 600 sq ft house with wood we harvest from the property .

Going with a Panorama from a 'quad' trip my neighbour took me on a couple of years ago. Getting to this spot on foot would have been a tough slog, even if I had been 30 years younger.
Best viewed at full size. Fuji Xp90 camera.

When your backcountry crosses into the apocalypse. A bunch of crazies camping miles from the nearest structure or service. 😉
