Out of curiosity does anyone with this issue have reduced motion turned on? I was having this same problem with that enabled. After disabling it I have not had a springboard freeze in 3 days. Not sure if that was the fix or if it's coincidence.

I’ve had it happen almost daily since going to iOS 11 and 11.0.1. I use reduce motion on. I’ve only notice it happen when trying to open an app that is located in a folder.

Try turning reduced motion off and see if that helps. Mine was freezing at least once a day with it turned on. I turned it off three days ago and is hasn't locked up since. Same issue for me with going in and out of apps in folders. Im not sure if the reduced motion thing has anything to do with it but mine has been stable since turning it off.

Same here on iPhone 6s. Had to hard reset I’d say four times since 9/12. It seems that all begins as soon as I click the Apple Store (not App Store) icon which is in a folder, but not 100% of the times of course.

11.02 is out. No mention of the bug in this thread. So i doubt it will help.... but one can always dream.....!

Happened again on 11.0.2. This iOS11 is a turd.

I called Apple AGAIN, while the phone was in a crashed state. they wanted to run a remote diagnostic but of course i couldnt get into settings to allow it.

Apple's troubleshooting steps are really limited, restore, or reset network settings, force restart... Now you go see a "genius" who will do the same thing and then probably want to replace a device that does not need replacing.

My fav option they tell me is "you can start from scratch, set up as new phone"... I'm like sure, I'll do it, the moment you allow individual app data to be saved & restored after. Yeah, like that's ever happening.

Happened to me today too on 11.0.2, again while trying to open an app located in a folder. Reduced motion on.

Yeah, today it happened while accessing a folder. Before i didnt really focus enough to find out where it was. But it froze on my app page that I ONLY have folders on, so it was 100% that.

Mine was on.
I just turned off. We will see if I get another crash.
I was experiencing it about every 2-3 days.

Since I changed this, I haven't had it crash again.

What a total failure this release is. My iPhone 7+ still continuously won't awaken right away. I can get the feedback from the home key or press power button multiple times and the screen stays black for about 15-20 seconds before it wakes up. Ugh...

I had a lengthy phone call with apple support letting them know it was happening. They escalated it to the developer team and hopefully will find the issue and have a fix soon.
The more we report it, the better chance it gets addressed.

Something like this sounds more like some weird install issue than anything else really.

did clean install and issue still exists, 11.0.3

on occasion , tapping an app in folder with reduced motion on will lock phone up and nothing will work except control center and notification screen. phone will not even turn off using power button. a reboot using home/power button is needed.

I turned Reduced Motion off as well about 10 days ago, and have not had this issue since (have not had it freeze up needing a reboot).

I gotta say, I just turned it off too and haven’t had an issue since. Longest I’ve gone without a hard reset (going on 5 hours of heavy Useage. This might have been where the issue was buried.
Have a follow up with Apple in a few days and will report.

I’m having this home screen “freeze” issue almost daily now on my iPhone 6s. Never on my 10.5” iPad Pro so far.

And yes, I’m using “reduce motion” on my iPhone. I will switch it off (and perhaps switch it on for the iPad!) to see if it makes a difference.

I use reduce motion on both my 6s and my ipp 9.7, I only see the “freeze” issue on my iPhone.

So far so good with iOS 11.1, haven’t had this issue show up yet. Reduce motion on
