☝️yeah. Your setup uses basic devices people should have anyway, rather than convince somebody that they need such and such RAID bay with such and such software or NAS that they have to configure etc. Popping a drive into the dock is as easy as loading a VCR. Replace as you go.

On my Breadbin I load software using this:
Yes, I have Kung Fu Flash too, and... ;) There are couple of new ones (around 50€ each) which seem interesting and I would like to try them. And then there is the Turbo Chameleon v2 which would be super cool but I consider it too expensive at this point.

The Ultimate II+ plus has an ethernet-connection. Maybe I should try if I can connect to my Mini servers with C64? Would make transferring files to it, well I don't know if it would be handy in any way but atleast modern. ;) Cannot remember what protocols are supported but FTP might be a possibility? EDIT: here. Primitive but something might work.

The second pic is my SD2IEC -SD-card reader. Same as yours I see! 👍 The cardridges are so good it gets very little use these days.

BTW. couple of weeks ago I installed a 4x switchless Kernel ROM switcher to my 250407 breadbin. Works just great!

Granted - but your video might be better.
I highly doubt it. I still used to do some video editing back when iMovie was new but never really got exited about it. I've done some videos every now and then but I no longer edit them other than cut the unnecessary stuff out. They are as basic as they can be, nothing special. And I don't think I have interest or even time to learn good editing anymore.

I recently discovered UTM for emulating older machines/OS's. I'm new to transferring files between the host and guest machine. I'm trying to set up ftp and it's a new thing for me. This is between my host mac; an M1 and a virtual machine; a PPC G4 running Mac OS 9.2. I'm using Transmit on the M1 for ftp. Can anyone tell me what Url or address I should put in for the server on the guest machine? i also need the User Name and password... Do I somehow find these settings within one of the control panels in OS 9.2? Thanks.

If you manage to set up 10.5.8 ppc in UTM, please let me know. I could not when I tried.

To be clear on the Host Transmit is asking for: Address; User Name and Password. I haven't a clue where to find these in the OS 9.2 VM.

I don’t believe OS 9.2 has a built in FTP service so have you setup a third party FTP server on the 9.2 VM?

I installed Transmit 1.6 on the VM by putting it in a disc image and adding it to the drives in UTM settings. I then installed QuickFTP on the host and started the server - that was easy! Then by sheer guesswork with the settings I got Transmit 1.6 on the guest to work. I turned sharing on somewhere and AppleTalk too. But working on the guest is clunky being OS 9. On the host I still don't know why Transmit 5 won't connect. For instance should I turn off AppleTalk or sharing on the guest?

I too, after Apple removed support for connecting to APFS computers from older Macs, just opted to send files to my local server from my newer machines, and view them on the server on the older ones. I have a 2006 Mac Mini with gigabit ethernet running Snow Leopard Server for that task, and it has a public folder for files, apps, and other stuff I want on my older computers, and I usually just plop them in there from my M2 MacBook Air nowadays for ease of downloading, but then my PowerPCs and early Intel Macs can see the shares on the Mac Mini just fine. The server also holds my Time Machine backups for my MacBook and a few other computers in the house, for wireless backups to a large external USB drive.

Someone near me is selling a working iBook G4. It runs off mains fine but not at all off battery. It is running OS 10.4.11 but has no install discs. I may buy it later today and hope it will boot into OS 9 to work on the floppies. If OS 9 isn't installed I suppose I could try seeing if OS 10.4.11 will open files in the 'Classic' environment. If not I suppose I'll have to search online for some kind of OS 9 installer for that machine.

Oh it's even easier. Most original setup media (gray discs) came with an OS 9 installer for Classic; though it doesn't specifically matter if it matches the machine, so just about any will work, such as the Late 2004 G4 media on the Garden.

Using the NetBoot image is probably faster, but this is more or less the "official" way of installing a Classic environment.

The iBook G4 (14") has arrived with OS 10.5.8 Leopard installed. The previous owner seemed to have left her user folder on it so I deleted this in Users. On mains power it runs very hot on the left side underneath... Is this a common issue? On battery it seems cooler. When I switched it on it went into setup mode. Spotlight was indexing and causing a lot of hard disc activity so I put the HD in Private under preferences. That stopped it. Activity monitor shows only 3% but it does get very hot when plugged in.
