Itunes?

[doublepost=1509906853][/doublepost]

In settings (I'm getting bored saying this tbh) there is an option to answer calls with just a press of the home button.

Works.

In my car I have two ways to turn up the volume. I can turn it up on the middle console with a knob or I can turn it up on my steering wheel. What you are basically saying is that if my steering wheel buttons don't work that is completely acceptable because I can turn it up by using the knob on my middle console. Thanks for the stupid reply.

BTW if I took the car in and they told me that I would not accept that response.

You obviously would. What that tells me is you settle for things. I don't.

If your TV remote doesn't work are you good with that because you can just turn it up on the TV itself?

If your keyfob doesn't work on your car are you good with that because you can still use the actual key portion to unlock your door?

I expect things to work. IF I choose to use a workaround then that is certainly a choice. Using a workaround because something doesn't work how it is supposed to is not a solution.

Any other stupid comments for me to consider?

Itunes?

*shudders*

In my opinion, (and yes im going to be dramatic here) Itunes is the worst program i have ever had the misfortune to use in my life; for two reasons.

1. Why on earth does it exist in the first place?
2. It's huge, cumbersome and slow. Behaves like a virus in windows PC's.

God awful idea. Quite how or why you apple people put up with it i dont know.
Yeah, you are being dramatic. ;)

It is a solid and powerful music management application, that also lets you manage your phone if you choose to do so. To me it is kind of like Android in some regards, out of the box, it isn’t configured or setup right (my use case), And it has a lot of hidden useful features if you know where to look for them, but don't get in the way.

It has so many features that I use, that would otherwise require a fairly wide gamut of applications to handle many of which have bigger drawbacks (IMO) than this powerful, ad free application.
  • Convert media to different file types
  • Rip CD audio (yep I still do this)
  • Edit music files down to a specific length
  • Add album art (nice to do after ripping a CD)
  • Change or simply add Metadata
  • Create my own ringtones for my devices
  • Manage my iTunes Match library that syncs with all my Mac, Windows, and iOS devices.
  • Airplay to various TV or audio systems in my house that support it.
  • Manage my video library for my AppleTV devices and (because they share a folder) Chromecast, or VLC players.

I understand it would be nice to manage files on my iPhone with something like Explorer, however, iTunes launch time and speed have never been an issue on any of my Mac or PC systems. I also don't need to connect to a computer more than once or twice a year, usually to dump in some more Ringtones, or, revert from a beta test build.

I backup to the cloud on my Android and iOS devices. Additionally, the built in Files application in iOS negates my needing to use a computer now anyway, as I can access both iCloud and Google drives from the native Files app on iOS.

If you cant swipe to answer a call, either you have teflon fingers or your phone is broke.

Being able to press the home button to answer (or power button to end) isnt a work around. Its an option for people who may need it (ie people who wear gloves). Its a great addition to android and a reason why the samsung skin is so good.

I appreciate its not what you want to hear and thus have reverted to insults. Sorry about that

As always ymmv.

My experience of itunes has always been utterly fustrating. I have never used a mac so perhaps i may have had a better experience on a mac.

For my ipod, i gave up having to sync my whole library just to add a song and waiting an eon for it to do it. I changed to rockbox.

Same for my last iphone. I just could not get on with it. It was always mixing my iphone account with my wifes iphone account.

Lately ive had to use it to set up my families new iphones. Cue a 2 hr download for the latest version of itunes and then a 2 hr download for the latest version of ios then 1/2 hr to reset and restore before the new phone were good to go. It is awful if your pc and broadband is not top notch.

For me who is a heavy music user, drag and drop is invaluable. With the advent of gpm and streaming services to match, itunes is an irrelevance. The things it does for the iphone are mostly native in android.

Im guilty of the same faults as the lad above with his S7, but man, itunes in my experience really sucks.

Let me be more clear and that is my fault I wasn't. It is not always the case. Most of the time I swipe and it answers like it should. Once in a while it just won't register any touch. None of the options on the screen work. I can't answer, I can't decline, etc. 90% of the time there is no issue with it answering. This is in normal situations so it isn't hot or cold. I'm not wearing gloves. My hands are not wet. It is just buggy about 5-10% of the time.

I do use a mac so my experience with itunes is with a mac.

I don't mind hearing that there is a workaround. In fact I appreciate it. Certainly some workarounds are acceptable, but for a flagship phone I expect more. One thing I am glad to hear is that the S8 is much improved. I am not ready to be that guinea pig. What I would have to see from a Samsung phone is a better browser (think I could get away with using Chrome so probably a non issue). The ability to send messages to Apple imessage without downgrading pictures or video. A battery that is still decent 12 months later. A visual voicemail option directly from the calling screen. A video message system that allows me to call iphones (I realize this will likely never happen). Finally a much more accurate keyboard (that also may be a non issue if I downloaded a different keyboard).

It's funny you don't like the browser. The Samsung browser is pretty highly rated which shocked me how good it is. But most people use other browsers anyways. I usually use Firefox, but been using the Samsung one more and more.

I literally hate the apple keyboard. It's one of the few things that I seriously think gets worse each year. It's also one of the few things that causes me to swear out loud.

So, I got my iPhone X and went out and bought a Samsung Note 8. I am in love with the Note 8 screen. The iPhone X screen is too narrow. In fact, I am digging Android a lot. I have all other Apple products, so I am figuring everything out. My only deal killer problem and why I may have to stick with iPhone X is the quality of videos received from iPhone. Is there any solution to this other than have them e-mail them. Is there a current iMessage equivalent? Unfortunately, most of my friends and family have an iPhone.

There are lots of ways. My whole family has iPhones except me now. We are just using GroupMe for family chats. And we setup a Google Photo shared folder for family pics and videos. It's a learning curve but not a huge deal.

Google and the arrives need to develop an MMS follow on... Seriously.

Never happened to me, but I did switch my sim from my iPhone SE back to my LG G5 again.

Dasher app (iOS' version is awful)
Tethering

I pretty much crossed out iPhone X for me. An x on X. I can't have iOS as a daily driver. Secondary is fine.

My next phone needs to be Android. I'm game with another smaller Pixel again but wished for lesser bezel. Wished the smaller Pixel 2 came in panda.

I also made the mistake of buying an unlocked Note 8. Everything works great with Verizon except they don't support Visual Voicemail for unlocked phones. I guess that is what you get when you let carriers run things.

I heard the updates can be slower for non carrier devices too.

I was considering an unlocked Note 8 as well until I found out the unlocked one doesn't support wifi calling and is expected to receive updates later than the carrier models (which is strange, you'd think it would be the opposite?). I usually prefer unlocked models.

It really does sound like the OS has got borked. This does happen, especially after an upgrade in major android revisions.

I strongly recommend you do a factory rest. Do not restore from any back up. Set it up as a new phone.

If you have samsung back up currently set up correctly, you can then restore your call logs and messeges etc, but i would stay away from restoring settings and apps if you can.

Regarding browser, the samsung browser is widely regarded as the best browser on any OS at the moment. IMHO, its brilliant. Chrome is a mess for me.
For keyboard, i use the samsung one as i find it ok, but in reallity, Gboard is miles, miles, miles better than anything else out there.

Apple customers call police because the Apple store didn't have any iPhone Xs in stock.....

Woah, detached from reality much?! o_O Reminds me of a story about a guy who showed up at an Apple Store in NYC wielding a huge Excalibur style sword yelling “I want an iPhone”.

I don't disagree with you 840quadra. I realize there are definitely some workarounds to some of the issues and if someone decides those workarounds work for them or provide an even better experience I have no issue or argument with that. Makes total sense.

I will acknowledge that if I were going to keep the S7 I would have implemented some of these workarounds. My biggest issues are with the battery, stability of the internet browser, Integration with Apple Music and transferring music through itunes, the messaging app to message almost exclusively other apple phones who use imessage only, video chat with people who use facetime only, the keyboard, the handling of boarding passes on the main screen, and the visual voicemail access.

ios just provides a much more polished experience.
Weird, don't know about the S7E but I've had an S7 for over a year and half with no issues, battery life is still top notch and I'm a pretty heavy user. Visual voice mail, not sure what you mean there, I placed the icon right in the bottom dock, click it and goes right to Visual Voicemail just like my iPhones, whats so complicated with that? And in my phone app the visual voicemail button is right there so don't have to exit either. I use Chrome, literally have 12 tabs open in it right now and on this board and no issues like you were having and mainly use it b/c of how easy it's sync'd to my Macs with bookmarks and tabs, I'm not a fan of Safari even on my Macs. I use Textra for messaging, I get iMessage but the fact that its lock to only iOS is useless, if it was integrated and expanded that'd be different, but not everyone has an iPhone, I do wish Apple/Google/Carriers could come up with something that works across the board. Video chat honestly not sure as I never use it on either and never have. Keyboard I've used Swype for years which is excellent. Boarding passes, I travel a lot both biz and pleasure and always use the phone for boarding passes no prob so again not sure what the trouble is there? Personally I also use Nova as the launcher as bought that years ago and still use it. With Nougat on my S7 this phone runs slick, fast, and still have excellent battery life coming up to almost 2 years now.

I also have Macs and integrates and syncs fine... I don't use iTunes however and despise it. But in general everything else and business stuff I've never had an issue using my Androids on my Macs.

Now if you didn't want to change or do anything thats fine, but thats the point and advantage with Android, with iOS your stuck as is and how Apple wants and that makes me want to put my head through a wall lol.

Well then, how can my experience with it is so positive while someone else's is so negative?

I use my phones hours a day, maybe those guys fill their phone with heavy apps?

I do use the cleaning ram/performance tool on a daily basis tho.

Everyone is different, iOS is much easier overall for the average person. Android and Samsung are not as easy and can require a tremendous amount of knowledge or time to perfect. The average Android user could have the opposite experience that someone like you experiences.

He needs to do a full reset is all. Happens all the time on Android/IOS. The OS gets in a knot.

There is some truth in this....
I have a new Note 8 replacement......wanted to get all the info from my 8 Plus onto my new N8.
So I went through the data transfer. Over the next few days I noticed i was not getting very good battery life and noticed a little slowness that wasn't on my first Note 8.
Long story short.....i did a reset and set the N8 up as new. My battery life has improved dramatically and the slowness has gone away.....
