Now that we've seen what Motorola, Sony, and oneplus will be offering, I remain cautiously optimistic for the HTC Nexus this year. Word has it that huawei is also back for another Nexus device so that'll be interesting too if it's a smartphone (sequel to 6p?).

For the first time, I think I'm ready for a Google phone. The hardware and software has finally matured enough. HTC hardware plus what we've seen of Android N should pair up nicely. And it'll be unlocked, get direct updates, and hopefully will be sold at a reasonable price.

It's wishful thinking but it'll be extra awesome if I don't have to sacrifice wireless charging or waterproofing (still love being able to lightly rinse my s7e whenever it gets dirty or smudgy).

I'm also interested in how the Chinese OEMs will affect the market. ZTE, xiaomi, huawei, and other miscellaneous ones... they're gonna ruffle the market a bit and I think that's a good thing.

I agree with you the HTC Nexus phone! I hope they have a 5.5 inch display model though.
The ZTE Axon 7 is on my radar as well. Then of course the Note 7 and iPhone 7 phones will be mine! :)

Only specific devices I have my eye on are this years crop of Nexus phones. I still won't likely considering moving over full time though as I've come to realize I value the experience provided by my Apple Watch far too much to switch, but HTC has been my favorite Android OEM, I like what they did with the 10 and am curious to see what they do with a Nexus phone.

A sign of my weakness...had to take my Apple Watch in for some sort of repair (covered by Applecare :D) as the 'Use iPhone to unlock' is no longer functioning..requires a passcode every time it wakes. I previously tried using a Huawei Watch, first paired with a Nexus 6P and then this past week with my iPhone and both experiences were lacking. I'm traveling for a week and after not having my Apple Watch on for just a few hours yesterday....I ended up purchasing a replacement Apple Watch (different color, of course :p) that I'll either keep to switch up based on my dress/mood, pass it on to a family member when my current model returns next week, or <shhh> ultimately, maybe return ;).

Jeez I have a problem.

I really like what I see on the upcoming watchOS 3.0 so that's pretty much cementing my place in the Apple ecosystem for the immediate future. Ironically, based on rumors, for the first time I don't see myself upgrade my iPhone this fall (much to the dismay of my kids who get their cell phones from my hand-me-downs) as my 6s+ still is a joy to use. Not a good time for Apple though when an early adopter like myself that has owned every flagship they've sold decides to skip a generation.

God I hope the new Apple Watch isn't a spectacular leap forward in hardware or my wife is gonna kill me.

Always looking to see what the next Nexus and iPhone will be.

Samsung however surprised me with the S7 Edge which I couldn't resist and upgraded to.

The next Nexus needs to be one hell of a phone to get me to upgrade again in the same year.

The current iPhone is a better indication of what the iPhone 7 will look like. ;)

True. Still, the antennae lines to the meizu device look uncanny to the rendered leaks of the iphone 7.

I wonder how people feel about the meizu design.

WSJ is reporting more of the same rumors we've heard before of a modest iPhone update this year: http://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-unlikely-to-make-big-changes-for-next-iphone-1466526489

Apple Unlikely to Make Big Changes for Next iPhone

Tech giant plans to break with tradition of overhauling its design every two years; headphone plug likely to disappear

I understand devices can't be majorly re-designed so frequently, especially now that the market is maturing, but this is still somewhat disappointing. HTC tried to hang onto a very similar design in the M series for three years and got greatly criticized for it in their third year. Sony, too. Will the same happen to Apple?

EDIT: MR's own story about it: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/06/21/2016-iphone-to-feature-minor-changes/

For me the most important thing is software, and after seeing Android N and iOS 10 I'm not that excited about buying new hardware, since the new software updates don't excite me.

Only hope would be a really amazing Note 7 or Nexus phone, but only if they have really good battery life, which is my top priority for my next purchase. My S6 battery life is getting worse and worse with every update it seems...

For flagships, HTC/Huawei Nexus or something innovative from LG again. Perhaps a true Nokia ANDROID flagship too.

My brand favs - Nokia. LG. Xiaomi. Motorola. Asus.

Innovative. Good value. Sony, HTC, Samsung, and Apple don't offer either of that.

I mentioned I am not really into flagships since we hit the QHD era. I am perfectly content with 720p and its file size until I die. I don't want 2-4GB sized movies. I am content with the 300 ppi range or close to it. The one phone I am actually looking forward to is a ZTE Zmax 3 with Marshmallow and removable battery once again. Zmax 2 seems awesome for its price. Also looking into the "4.5 Asus Zenfone Go (2016) for $85. Can't find it in red though, so might get it in gold.

Snapdragon 200-400s is all I really need in an SoC because I am so frugal with money and battery life. I want ARM's power efficient Cortex A7 since I don't game much and Cortex A7 or A53 is all I really need for the most basic tasks. Flagships are generally ripoffs to me removing basic features like FM radio, removable battery, and sometimes no SD slot for something useless like a 1440p display or being super thin and metal. LOL. Industry needs their suckered customers just like Apple though.

The real hidden gems and diamond in the rough are those foodstamp phones under the $150 range.

I don't think Sony necessarily got criticised for the DESIGN, the specs vs price ratio on the X series is insane. At this price they could be triangle-shaped and 1 mm thick and I'd still expect them to be more revolutionary.

Sony has a number of problems, for sure.
