But

But we all know they never will do it with the apple tax, so just give me the neutered version!

Amazon doesn't want to do that. A neutered version on your ATV means you'll watch your Prime content in the neutered app and conveniently go to Apple for all your purchased or rented content. For Amazon, Prime content is like a loss-leader. Doesn't make much sense for Amazon to take the loss just to lead their customers straight to Apple.

You can say the same thing for the iOS app. Yet they've still done it, and I'm still paying yearly for my prime membership...

VUDU (No store needed, just playback)
Amazon (No sore needed, just playback)
Safari (with keyboard capabiliy)
Facetime (seems like a nobrainer)

In terms of film content, its time for Apple to update the audio files on movies to 7.1. ATV 4 is 7.1 capable and 5.1 is last century. If you're not giving us UHD at least give us some incremental audio improvements.

In alternate, I'll take an iTunes app on Roku....

You could say that, but you'd be missing the point that watching on the big TV in the den is a different and much bigger ballgame than watching on a phone or tablet. The revenue potential for content coming out of the TV has a lot more zeros just to the left of the decimal point. Amazon will shrug off this issue and offer a neutered iOS app because there's less money at stake, and it keeps a presence on your phone. Plus they know nobody's going to supplement their iPhone with an Android phone just to get to an Amazon video app. People will, however, use both an Apple TV box and a Roku box, or a Blu Ray with streaming video, or a 'smart TV' with an Amazon app already built-in. So there's a lot more money at stake, and very little reason to just roll with it and take the loss.

1. You are overlooking that they have implemented the best AirPlay (with x-ray) of any other App (at least that I use). So, they are well aware of the fact people want to play Amazon content on the Big TV and they allow/encourage it via AirPlay. Using your logic that people will simply buy a second box Amazon could simply disable the AirPlay feature or never create it in the first place. Others have done that. But no, they spent a lot of time and effort on making AirPlay a very useful feature of their iOS App.
2. I will not buy another box simply to get the Amazon App (no one else I know would either). And even though the Amazon App is on my TV I still use AirPlay from my iPad on the those times I need to use it.

I know Amazon does not listen to me. But, I would have no problem buying/renting (well maybe renting or subscription) content on Amazon Web Site if it was a better deal then iTunes. But it is not, it is the same. However, even if cheaper and they did not offer an App on the Apple TV they would not get my business. Not sure this part is true but I have read that Amazon's goal is to get Prime membership more for the shopping then the music/video service. And, I think it is common knowledge that iOS/tvOS are customers that buy premium products are the very people Amazon wants for Prime membership. So, my opinion is that it really depends on the size of the tvOS Customer Base that will be in the end what makes Amazon decide to add an App or not.

i dont care about traditional app as such, I have plenty of devices to consume those. But i'd like to see things like Amazon Video, BBC, Sky etc. It's a device for watching content and that's what I'm looking for. If and or when Apple/content providers release them and assuming the streaming issue is fixed (the reason i returned my ATV4) i'll repurchase one.

Would love an Instagram and FB app to casually scroll using the Siri remote and dictate comments as needed if I want to reply to something. I know I am asking for a lot as the iPad versions of Instagram and FB are lacking.

It's just a different ball game than it was a few years ago. Apple use to be the only place you could go if you wanted the best...the latest features with a good UI, a great digital store in itunes and codes from all the studios to put our movies on itunes. Apple locked it down. If you wanted any of it you had to buy Apple Gear and they would direct you into their proprietary applications. Life was good.

Jump ahead to today. Apple still makes great products but, arguably no longer the best. There are plenty of high end phones from other manufacturers that make great phones that do more then their "I" counterparts. Androids UI has now been voted more than once as the most stable operating system. itunes has several new competitors that do a great job, some of them even make their own original programming. Years of talk of an Apple TV...TV, yet Roku is the one that has made that happen. The itunes codes with movies has faded with UV be voted in as the standard. Apple doesn't join of course because our movies would no longer be locked to Apple equipment.

People no longer HAVE to go Apple if they want the good stuff "that just works" life has become very good outside the walls of Apple yet, Apple continues the play it like they are the only game in town. Just imagine if we wasn't locked into itunes. We would have several options for streamers instead of one. With the Roku, we wouldn't be having a discussion about what apps we want to see, they are already on it. We could choose between several storefronts with Vudu probably being the best(but you get them all to choose from). With Vudu you get codes for most every movie, Disc to Digital, Family sharing....AND by choosing Vudu you are not automatically locked out from competition. You still get the FULL Amazon app, sling tv among MANY others....you have choice. Life can be good inside the walls of Apple but, I"m thinking one of the best kept secrets is that life is no longer bad outside those walls. Apple needs to let other storefronts (like Amazon prime and Vudu) onto the Apple TV before more people jump ship....this isn't 2007 anymore Apple give us choice, if itunes is still the best we will use it but, we want to make that decision for ourselves.

Almost every app that we use in our handset and tablets, specially , there should be an app which records every damn thing happening at our premises even though it is switched off.
