It would be great if notifications were less intrusive. The banner notification should be able to temporarily squeeze/push whatever is on the screen down. Currently the banner notification covers the top part of the screen, i.e. navigation directions, and elements such as the back button etc.

Are you on the beta? Because the redesign did make them „occasionally“ less intrusive, notifications shrink in height to fit the content. I was surprised at how unobtrusive they appear on my test iPhone 7 (texts coming etc.).

Squeezing content would be the biggest UX nightmare. Imagine wanting to click content on your UI but notifications just keep coming, pushing buttons around. There is no elegant way to have your viewport change so a notification doesn‘t overlay content.

I really miss the way WebOS handled notifications, which was similar to I think what you’ve got in mind. It was really quite elegant, both for its time and I think still today…

I was really hoping for even MORE memoji clothing options...maybe someday...

My list doesn't change much..and mostly revolves around Maps because that is what I use most.
* Web-based version of Maps for easier route planning and correction reporting
* Definitely would love for "Hidden" folder in photos to be password protected
* Big fan of the always on lock screen Windows Phone had for real basic info/notifications

I hope that I can set Siri shortcut to call someone on speaker finally. Not sure if iOS 15 allow this now but I’m not holding my breath.

- Lock screen weather
- Landscape mode for the Pro Max models (and quite frankly for all the models except Mini)
- The ability (a real one) to turn off notifications for shortcuts that are approved to run without asking...
- Splitscreen apps for the Pro Max

And many more that others have already mentioned!

iPad and even iPhone desperately need a guest mode. When you hand over your device to someone, you're giving them your whole life. They can look at all your pictures, they can send an email in your name, log on to any site that has a cookie on your Safari. Ideal would be a multiple user mode, but if they don't want to do that, at least give us a guest mode, to use when a friend wants to borrow our device for a few minutes.

This is never going to happen for the hardware we have now. It was removed due to FaceID not working in landscape mode, which is a hardware limitation. We‘ll only get this back once they manage to have the 360degree FaceID sensor array shrunk for iPhone usage.

I get that...but I guess I'm one of those people that would be fine unlocking my phone with Face i.d. in portrait mode and then turning it 90-degrees to use in landscape mode. Not the biggest deal though IMHO for me as I use mine way more in portrait mode anyway.

I kind of understand that logic but as @MozMan68 says I don’t think it prohibits them from implementing it. Especially as the iPad Pro uses the same FaceID system or does it use a different sensor?

Either way I‘d love it - going to upgrade to the 13 Pro Max this September and this would be a great feature!

iPad Pro uses a beefier sensor that enables them to do 360 degree FaceID scans.
The phones are limited in that regard, that‘s why Apple removed it (iPhone 8 etc. had it due to TouchID not caring about your orientation).

It‘s probably going to return when they manage to shrink the sensor array to fit iPhones (the 360 degree one).

Being able to set a different ringtone for separate lines on the same phone (a physical SIM & eSIM) would be nice. Same for the SMS arriving on different lines. Should not be that difficult? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ahh I’ve never owned an iPad Pro. I do still think that doesn’t stop them from implementing it though - seems like a very arbitrary reason to remove it.

I think what he is saying is that they could still implement landscape mode while forcing you to use portrait orientation for Face i.d.

Apple obviously feels one is dependent on the other...and that's fine. I personally disagree as I don't think it would ruin my experience. (until Apple let's us do landscape mode and then me and everyone else starts bitchin' and moanin' about them not having a sensor that let's me do Face i.d. in landscape mode. :D )

You are talking about the company that wont let us remove the camera swipe/shortcut icon or took 14 releases to redesign the call screen.

They add it once they can do multi-orientation FaceId authentication so you don‘t have to rotate your phone to unlock. It‘s no dealbreaker for people like us but to Apple it obviously is. That being said, the landscape home screen is going to get nerfed to oblivion anyways (like on iPadOS 15) due to widgets.

No offense but why would you give someone access to your other devices?

If someone needs to use my phone to make a call, I’ll dial it for them. If they need to look something up, they can tell me what it is and I’ll pull it up. The only time my phone isn’t being used by me is if it’s charging or I’ve sold it to someone else.

iPhone less so, iPad definitely needs a guest/profile mode. The only reason it doesn't have one is so they can sell multiple devices into one home.

Oh I'm not against the idea. Sometimes I use my partner's iPad because it's just more convenient to use than my phone, and I would love to be able for us to have one iPad and we could switch which Apple ID is active.

I just always never understood the cases of when you'd just give someone your personal device. I mean, I could understand with like a younger kid to keep them entertained but otherwise yeah, my phone doesn't leave my hand.

Looks like the 360 degree sensor is no longer a limitation: https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/6/23156928/face-id-iphone-work-landscape-mode-ios-16-wwdc-2022-apple - looks like the 13 upwards supports it.

NOW GIVE ME MY LANDSCAPE MODE! Looks like two of my requests have been met already - I can live without the split screen apps, would prefer landscape mode

I shudder at the thought of them adding landscape home screen because they‘ll come up with some stupid scaling then for widgets on the home screen. iPadOS rotation looks stupid with widgets.

But yeah, I guess iOS 18 at the earliest for landscape home screen.
