Amen! I'm on an iBook G3 and would really like to upgrade to a current model, however none of them really appeal to me.

Should I buy a 15" MBP in the interim and then re-sell it if/when they come out with a 12" MBP?

The 12" iBook/PB design is just the best...
I am slightly inclined to do that, but I am decided I am ok with what I have.

I of course understand your clear point, I just feel the need to clarify your opinions further.

1. The new perpendicular 5400 rpm drives are just as fast as a 7200 rpm drive atm. Hell, even the 200 gb 4200 rpm is faster at disk reading and writing when it's filled with the adequate amount of data. Why do you feel the need of a more battery consuming and heat producing drive?
2. There is quite a difference here, seeing that the new Superdrives support dual layer burning, thus being above par on the burning level with your old Powerbook.

I do understand your reasons coming from a Powerbook. Had you had an iBook or an older model the reasons would probably have been different :)
1. If that is trough for every single use, ex. random access and burst, then I take your point.
2. The latest PowerBook G4's had 8x Dual layer SuperDrive. So the drive in the current 15" MacBook Pro are actually sub-par to the one it should replace!

But my point #2 still remains though! :(

I feel the same way. Not really happy with the current laptop lineup. I'm hoping for a 12" MBP and I don't want to wait until June either. I'm thinking about buying a MB or MBP, then selling it later when Apple gets its shitt together.

I bought the 17" refurb C2D yesterday. I need it for work so it's not like I'm losing out if they make another one in the summer. Should be here tomorrow, I'm pretty excited! Should look good next to the 2 feet of iMac I have in my office!

Pray that it has 3gigs of Ram in it! That would indeed be a miracle!

I had thought about the macbook but I wanted a larger screen and I just like the slick look of the MBP (and the speed). All the other PC laptops out on the market look like such clunking machines it's ridiculous!

I know what you are saying about the specs though - the MBP is hardly a 'pro' machine - although it has the fastest Merom processor, the DVD drive is slow as are the HDD's. They make a lot of money off these, and I think they should load them up for what we pay. But I will cherish this machine regardless. I have never burnt a movie at 16x on a DVD drive because it's too unstable so 8x is okay by me.

I think you made the right choice with the refurb. For my next machine, I am going to try going the refurb route for the first time and save some $$$
