I'm using 1Blocker on Safari (iOS + macOS) with sync on iCloud : it's doing a nice job and can do many custom rules.
Can block full site or only cookies from it, hide css element. You can even use whitelist for cookie/site to block if it isn't in this list.

Trying Wipr again with "Hush" (didn't know it before yesterday). Too bad, can't disable only wipr on a site and keep hush enable : have to disable both with safari option

For YouTube, nothing is better than ""uBlock Origin", so must use a Chromium browser for it... It's an extension I'm using with Edge too (nice to display a site when Safari failed)

I use 1Blocker (premium sub - not even sure if they offer a free level anymore)?

I had tried Wipr on recommendation from people on this forum, but found it blocked hardly anything (including the ads on this forum!). Might have been a setting issue, but I could never figure it out.
If you check the 'most recent' comments on the Apple Store site it seems as if it no longer works. I checked after reading on this thread.

Wipr you mean?

I've been quite happy with 1Blocker. It seems to be regularly updated. I did notice the other day that a site was showing me ads, but then 1Blocker was updated the following day, so I wonder if that fixed it. I haven't checked.

Adblock one from Trend Micro has a useful trick in that you can select an element to block just like you used to be able to do with NoScript. It doesn't always work though.
It's a good idea to use DuckDuckgo and their privacy essentials too as they seem to be able to block a lot more of the google scripts than you otherwise get.
If you search with Google you are always going to have more ads getting through.
Better has been one of my long term favourites and I really like the philosophy of the company. It works on the phone too.
Wipr seems to work well although I think Adblock One is slightly better because of the ability to select elements that are otherwise missed.

I'd really like to see a proper script blocker like NoScript though. It's annoying to see how many google scripts get through especially on video ads.

I use Squid as a forwarding proxy with destination domain blocking ACLs. Works on a LAN, VPS or chained together. Highly recommended.

If you prefer to maintain your own list of blocked domains/hostnames, don't use Safari - use Firefox to harvest trackers/beacons manually and let Safari (and other apps that supports an HTTP proxy) be a beneficiary.

It's tedious to comb through / tail log files, but the long term benefits are worth it.

What happened to Wipr? It used to be so good, but now I'm seeing lots of ads slip through. It can't block promoted ads in Twitter anymore and it fails frequently on YouTube as well.

I'm also having issues with wipr. Even on macrumors, its still showing the side ads
