Doom 3

Great atmosphere and creepy as hell but it just drags on and on as the game play really doesnt change. Also, the final boss was just so disappointing.

Doom 2 has the best game play of any shooter to this day. I would love to see ID recreate Doom 2 using its 3d engine.

Lfd

Yeah..L4D is exactly what you are looking for. I still think Doom 3 is the creepiest and scariest shooter but L4D for pure action.

There are a number of sites in Fallout 3 that are rather spooky as well. My favorite game right now.

Dead Space is well worth checking out if you like creepy, there are no zombies, it's more like The Thing crossed with Aliens but it's a worthwhile, fun game.

It's really hard now to scare me in a game. I got over that after playing Aliens vs Predator (a game that gave me a sore tension neck) and System Shock 2. So now, I would be really impressed if anything still gives me a shiver. :)

Looks like there are no zombie games on Mac, at least no modern ones.

For a zombie fix I recommend getting a Wii and playing Resident Evil 4, RE Umbrella Chronicles, RE Darkside Chronicles, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, THOTD Overkill, Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop and Dead Space Extraction.

Another vote for Stubbs the Zombie, I played it on my PC a few years ago and it was sooo fun and funny.

Too bad it only works on PPC though.

Are you sure it won't run on Intel? (non bootcamp)

Said left 4 dead cider port does exist and its easy to find if you enter things in google.

it has quite a few stability issues but when I used the windows version on my macbook pro 4,1 it played pretty well short of some unexplainable lag that would occur when fire was on the screen.

The cider port will most likely require you to turn down the graphics so its not a solid answer for the problem.

If you get yourself a copy of wow and play as a blood elf hunter you will be shooting zombies by level 18 (about 1 days worth of play between College classes and bodily needs).

Doom3 is a zombie shooter kinda as your not really shooting zombies your shooting undead controlled by the forces of satan.

A few of the resident evil games came out for mac before nintendo sank their claws in (there are also current iPhone versions).

If you can et your hands on a PS1/2 emulator you can play a good bit of the resident evil series along with Evil Dead.

Crossover Games 8.0 (already released - Demo availiable) should support Left4Dead with Steam.
So online play should be no problem anymore.

But i have not tried at the moment.

A bit OT, but have you ever played Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows? Only thing I've ever played that gave me such a fright I jumped up and turned the machine off..

Is this the game? Can you say what the scary thing was without spoiling it? Thumbs up on trying it?

I just tried using standard spoiler code, (code that blacks out your answer and can only be seen when u run your cursor over it) but it does not seem to work in this forum. Anyone know if it is allowed?

It's an old-ish game, but I won't spoil it anyhow.

IMO, it's an exceptional level in a average/good game (it's the only game level I know of which received its own multi-page review: link, but don't click it if you want to try the game).

What creeps you out in the level is you're over halfway through it before you see anyone at all, but you can hear things from the very start. It just drips atmosphere. If you're the "pull across the curtains and turn the sound up kind of gamer, you'll love it. Less of a "Hellraiser" gore, more of "The Shining".

p.s. I won't tell you what the scary moment was exactly, but when you're playing at 2am in the morning, and something lunges out at you suddenly, and you run for the door, down to the end of the hallway, up the stairs, to the end of the upstairs hallway, and through a door again; and you turn around, you normally expect to see nothing right behind you.... :p

Thanks for the info! I may consider this. :) Last game where things jumped out at me was Doom3.

I'm not sure how it is on the PC, but Call of Duty 5, World At War has an AMAZING zombie add on. Nazi zombies, I'm not sure if on the PC they're up to Map Pack 3 already. I play on PS3 and it's tons of fun.

I am in a obsessive Zombie shoot-up phase. I need quite a scare. It doesn't necessarily have to be a zombie, but a survival- horror game would be nice.

Same old story: The Mac sucks for gaming, primarily because nobody writes games for it or ports games fast enough and secondarily because all Macs are way behind in their graphics power.

Buy an Xbox 360 and play stuff like Left4Dead, Dead Rising, Clive Barker's Jericho and the forthcoming Dead Rising 2 and Dead Island.

Before I do any research, I thought I'd ask if Dead Rising and/or Dead Island has decent offline, split-screen coop? :)

can i recommend a great zombie game? it won't scare you, but its really well done (tons of awards) and has a great art style. "Plants Vs. Zombies" is one indie game you don't want to miss! ;) you have to defend your house from waves of zombies by planting various plants. a variation on tower defence, they say. i had a blast with it, and i play LOTS of games ;)

It's more puzzle than shooter but it kicks ass! haha

Mm I would say Left 4 Dead definitively ;)
