Cesária Évora - wonderful.
The day she died I cried.
As if for my grandmother.
Her voice is so soothingly comforting.

Hearing her performing "live" was not much of a staged spectacle though. Pretty much just stood (in bare feet) and sang. No fancy moves there. First time I saw her perform she puffed away at cigarettes one after the other. No idea how she managed to sing! :)

Lucky you having had the privilege of seeing (and hearing) her play live.

Actually, I first heard her music some years ago while en route to a meeting in a taxi, - played on the taxi's music system - (driven yes, by a gentleman with dusky skin tones) and I was absolutely blown away. The delighted driver wrote down the name of the gifted performer for me and - within a matter of hours - I had ordered a few of her CDs.

Has anyone here come across lingala music?
