Trying out the Sony MDR V6 headphones with the Modi and the Mangi this afternoon. These are 63 ohm cans and I only have the volume turned to about 5% - 10% and there isn't much more I want to throw at them. The Schiit combo can sure throw a lot of power and the Sennheiser's can take a lot of power too, but the Sony's require that I be careful - well, so do my ears.

Listening to some Santana right now.

Ennio Morricone - Five Man Army theme

Actually, I had the privilege of seeing him play live (or perform live) with his orchestra a few years ago on a European tour; knowing that I love this stuff, my brother had got me a ticket (almost a year in advance) as a gift, a ticket that turned out to be for an excellent seat, and which was a sort of combined birthday/Christmas present.

A memory....
Road trip through New Mexico with a couple of friends, music playing through my iPhone on shuffle. We're in the middle of nowhere.... "big sky country"....and as we near an Indian historical/archeological site, this starts playing.....

Currently listening to a track that was played by Alex Paterson on BBC 6 mix in 2010. I've been trying to find out who it is for a while but I've had no luck yet. Anyone?

Her voice really is something else. Last weekend I listened to the Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi album "Rome" a couple of times in a row, and she features on a few songs on that record. Really great stuff.

Then I remembered that I hadn't listened to Ravi Shankar (Jones' father) in ages, and finally landed on this. Two great composers, Shankar and Philip Glass, on the same album. As it's hot as all hell here currently, this is the perfect music to listen to while sweating away on the couch with the blinds closed.

Fascinating post, and thanks for sharing.

I hadn't known that Ravi Shankar was Norah Jones's father - fascinating.

While I love Philip Glass, an album that features both Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass would be well worth listening to; this I must track down.

And I am familiar with Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi's fantastic album "Rome" - it is brilliant, and I have @mobilehaathi on these very threads to thank for having introduced me to it.

I've not heard of this one, I'll check it out later on tonight.
Thanks!

It is actually brilliant: I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It is sort of Spaghetti western meets surfing music meets Italian classical musical training and sensibilities. Personally, I love it (and thank @mobilehaathi who assured me that I would enjoy it).

It came as a huge surprise to me as well when I first heard about it. We were at a friends house years ago listening to records, and he put on Chants of India, the first part of Collaborations by Shankar and George Harrison. At one point the topic of Norah Jones came up and he just casually mentioned something about her being Shankar's daughter. An interesting little piece of "trivia", for sure!

I’ve been listening to the album Wilder Mind, by Mumford & Sons, the last couple of morning commutes.
“Ditmas” is, in my opinion, a truly great song. I find it poignant, as my two daughters have said it reminds them of their mother (my former wife) and me.

Found this YouTube video of Ditmas, and while I’m still trying to figure out what it has to do with the song, I find it compelling.

In fact, I have just placed an order for this CD.

And again, my thanks.

I have this Shankar/Glass album. Good one, I’ll have to put it on today.

I just had a listen to Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi this evening. The three tracks with Norah Jones were wonderful. However, the rest of the album didn't do much for me. I favorited the three tracks in Tidal to come back to again.

I can see where @Scepticalscribe likened some of it to a spaghetti western, though. I had to smile while I first heard that.

The album wasn't for me, but I gave it try.

That was the album that introduced me to Danger Mouse, and - when flying or travelling by other means - this is one of the albums that I sometimes listen to.
