Ran across a couple of new videos from a couple of artists that I rather like. The new one from Eric Church, off of his upcoming album. And one from The Brothers Osborne, (that was filmed just down the road from my house during their recent tour stopover). Both of these are actual music videos, in the story telling vein.

More Pink Floyd tonight.

I'm finding that listening to this band via my HiFi headphone setup is the ideal method to really get the best experience. I was listening to some of the same tracks on both the Apple HomePod and in my car, and while both are very nice in their own right, listening to PF on them isn't quite the same as on the HiFi setup.

There is a lot more detail and background effects that I can hear on the HiFi that I don't get in the car or the HomePod.

Good headphones (and good equipment) really allow you to hear the deeper layers and extra dimensions to the music of Pink Floyd.

Absolutely, I reserve Pink Floyd for very specific gear/places/times, never a car, evenings, usually headphones.

In fact, my moment-of-zen with the new HD6XXs was with Wish You Were Here, the clarity and soundstage of the title track just __floored__ me.

WYWH is their best album and yes, I'll fight you over this ... :D

More Scandroid tonight. Found him just last night from the Reddit forums, subreddit r/outrun. Turns out he's a local (to me) artist in Detroit.

He's part of a relatively new genre of music called Synthwave. I guess its loosely based on 1980's sci-fi movies and video games, but began in the early 2000's on underground Internet websites until it became more mainstream like it is today. This genre/artists can be found on Apple Music and Spotify and such, but are usually carried under the Electronic genre.

I'm going to order a couple of his albums tonight to have the physical media and support this local artist better too.

But, they (Pink Floyd) are brilliant to listen to on long flights.

Maybe in 1st class, in front of the engines, a cocktail, with closed backs and a portable amp.

Maybe.

:)

"Closed backs and a portable amp?" Not sure I quite understand what you have written.

Anyway, I've listened to them on long flights, transcontinental flights, played on my iPod Touch or Astell & Kerns SP 1000, using as headphones my standard wired Bowers & Wilkins P5s.

Now, as it happens, I don't drink cocktails - I far prefer beer or wine, and I've never travelled First Class in my life, but, yes, granted, I do sometimes travel Business Class, when working abroad in challenging places.

Had a new video for Keith Urban pop up in my feed today and have been giving it a listen. It is certainly taking country music in a new and rocky direction. Very good tune for getting your feet moving.

This one, another by Keith, has been in my iTunes rotation for awhile now. It's a great duet with Eric Church. A really moving song that never fails to bring a tear to my eye, (not a sad one, though).

Rubber Soul - The Beatles.
While massively popular, The Beatles music never touched me. It just never did anything for me. The only song I do like, released by John Lennon, is 'Imagine'.

Though I don't care for their music, I recognize and appreciate their contribution to the industry and society at large. Their influence is still felt today by a great many.

Now to avoid a fight with @D.T. I'm listening to the lossless version of:

Okay, @D.T. trolled (or teased) - frankly, these days, I cannot tell the difference when I am communicating with Americans - re something to do with fresh fish and sushi in another thread elsewhere - so, I am indifferent as to whether I am embroiled in a"fight'' with @D.T. - as, candidly, I am unable to tell the difference.

Nevertheless, I came late to an appreciation of some of the less admired albums of the Beatles: Basically, everything from (and including) Rubber Soul is astonishing, to my mind.

Rubber Soul and Revolver are two stunning (and underrated) albums to my mind. Now, needless to say, I love the "White" album, Abbey Road, and Sgt Pepper's, but also (to my surprise) in recent years, have found myself listening to both Rubber Soul and Revolver more than I might have expected. (Such as on seven hour trans-continetnatl flights).

Just friendly teasing and banter is all it is when he or anyone says they'll fight you over something such as 'the best' or a 'favorite' Pink Floyd album.

Thanks for the clarification: Seriously, nowadays, I genuinely cannot tell - not when I am in conversation with US citizens (online or elsewhere) - whether they are trolling, or teasing, or engaging in banter, or just being existential individuals.....

I'm not from the US, have never travelled there, and - these days - I don't "get" it.

That's okay. Everyone and every culture, as you very well know from your extensive travels about the globe, save for one hemisphere, has their own idiosyncrasies. I turned 40 this year and I'm already finding that "I don't get it" with some things going on anymore. This is especially true at work with some of my much younger employees and their new-fangled newspeak.

Bless you, and thank you, for that and earlier posts.

I've been a bit irascible for the past month or two, which is (not coincidentally) possibly related to my most recent period (deployment?) abroad.

Yet - Rubber Soul - which is an astoundingly good album (1965 - wow, one that has aged astonishingly well) - keeps me company this evening.

It's interesting you say that, I'm the same with the Beatles, I recognize the talent, contribution, defining new styles/genres/techniques, I'm mostly just kind of left ambivalent. I own the album 1 (that violates my usual tendency to immerse myself in an artists work, i.e., complete albums) and that's really enough Beatles for me - on very rare occasions. For classic rock music tastes reference, I'm a fan of the The Rollings Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, don't know where Bowie falls in the "classic rock" spectrum, but he's a top N for me, lots of prog rock from the 70s (King Crimson, Gabriel era Genesis), the previous discussed Pink Floyd is on constant rotation.

And most of my listening, veers off into alt-indie-rock/prog-metal/trip-hop/lo-fi/goth/punk ...

Hahaha, well, I was __waiting__ for someone to disagree, I was all warmed up and in the ring :D

If it's any consolation, most people here in the US usually have no idea I'm talking about either - I get a lot of blank stares ... :D

Joe Jeremiah's A-Bit of 80s – An earwormy chip tune medley of hits from the 80s.

Thanks for this. Somehow I missed it earlier in the day. I really enjoyed that.

No worries at all. :)

A few months ago I started to get the hint that I was getting old when I was in my administrative assistants office looking outside at the birds fluttering about and remarked how I enjoy watching them. She, being only 5 years younger than I, remarked that bird watching is for old people! D'Oh!

Lots of great artists and genres listed there; many of which I also enjoy.

As for the fight, you're going to have to pick something a bit more divisive I think!

Now I just searched Apple Music for 'Imagine' and played the song since I had just mentioned it above. It has been a while since I last heard it and it was probably on TV/radio or a Youtube video somewhere. But when I just heard it, it sounded awful. There was a tremendous amount of hiss and the whole song sounded muddy through and through. I don't know what's up with that. I'd have figured it would have been recorded with better quality or remastered at some point. It really sounded like a horribly recorded cassette tape that had seen better days.
