I loved Dire Straits when I was a kid in the 80s. I then promptly forgot about them when I was in HS in the 90s ( I blame the very good looking indie girls in my jazz/marching band) and then rediscovered them in the form of a cheap used CD box set I picked up at a Hastings in the early 2000s and have been listening to them ever since. They're always so much fun to listen to.

Hastings! There's a retailer I had forgotten!

40 seconds in is still by far the grooviest guitar line in any folk song. I can’t believe I still haven’t sought out a vinyl copy of this album.

I believe there’s an American folk song of the same name, wonder if there’s any relation.

Blast from the past. A quarter century! 😅

Nothing against Spice Girls but All Saints was my favourite girl group in the day. Plus I had a crush on Virginie Ledoyen at the time. 😍

Listened to a number of different versions of the fantastic Fandango by Antonio Soler to see in the New Year, then, listened to some Baroque music before bed.
I think you were the one who turned me onto Fandango initially a couple years ago. What a cool piece! I love it.

Currently, (as I’m still sick with the flu, but slowly getting better), I’m listening to Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in D minor. That’s pretty much what I need right now, as I’m resting, I wouldn’t listen to anything else.

Speaking of Dire Straits:

The album version of this has a beautiful interchange between the guitar and the organ at the end; that Hammond just cries! I have a 5.1 mix of this album, need to play it after the current show (Vienna Philharmonic playing in Musik Haus (?) on PBS). Maddeningly they’re not displaying the names/composers of the pieces…

I love fast, precision playing in a fusion player, but even I would admit that Mark King kinda goes overboard here with Level 42. Still love them though.
They sold out two full weeks at Wembley a few years back; here they're playing in a tiny auditorium to (apparently) a bunch of rich old folk who are getting into the music as much as the rock soldiers along China's Great Wall. How the Mighty have Fallen...

Hope you get well soon.

Yes, I remember that.

Delighted that you love it, as I do.

Excellent choice.

I love Bach, especially his harpsichord music.

I like Mark King but the most impressive part of this vid to me is how the rest of the band came in on a dime with Mark. Not a little in front, not a whee bit behind, but precisely on the beat. Assumed simple musical tasks like that while easy to get in the ball park and convincingly so to the layman, can be surprisingly difficult to nail that precisely; perfectly.
