I have a 2019 i9 iMac with 128 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. For my work, it's more capable than the 16 GB/1 TB M1 Pro MBP my university lent me, for the following reasons. Thus the M1 remains idle:
1) 8x the RAM (needed for some of my calculations)
2) 2x the storage
3) Gives me a 5k central monitor, and can drive my two side montiors, for a total of three large externals. The M1 Pro can only drive two externals.
I may replace the iMac with an M4 Max Studio + ASD.
I also have a 2014 15" MBP, running High Sierra, which is is used to sync my 7th-gen iPod Nano with my music and audiobooks. Since iTunes comes natively on that OS, it works better than the version I installed on my iMac using Retroactive.
