Unless something really amazing takes place next year, I’ll be holding on to my XR for at least two years. It’s one of my favorite iPhones I’ve had (and I’ve had almost all of them).
I think “gimped” is the wrong word for the XR. BUT I think it does have the sigma of being a lesser phone which might hurt the resale value down the line.
Gimped wasn't referring to the A12. It was in reference to the comparison, as a whole, between the XR & the XS/Max & where that comparison stood next to the 'compromised' non-Plus models of the past.
It wasn't having a shot at the XR either. It's a decent device. I just feel Apple have gone backwards with it by removing features such as 3D Touch/OLED etc. whereas each non-Plus model (6, 7, 8) have improved on their predecessors.
And then you would have the price point raised higher for the XR if it included those features. How do you expect Apple to offer a cheaper price point Under the XS if they were to include OLED/3D Touch? That’s not ‘backwards’, that’s called strategic pricing. Also, They didn’t ‘remove’ 3D Touch/OLED, they were never added in the first place.
I couldn’t give a toss about OLED but the XR should have included 3DTouch for the price. It’s on previous devices like the 6S, 7 and 8 series for the same price point. I’d feel short changed if I owned the XR based on that plus it’s a feature many of us use every time we use our phones.
