Lol, looks like the only one we never kept in the household from the list was iPad Mini 1-3 & 5. 😂

I did buy a Mini 1 as a gift for my niece though.

iPad air 2 and iPad Mini series are quite popular. I am shocked that iPad Pro A-series was still a best seller.

This is an enthusiast forum and there were 4 generations of iPad Pros before M1. The polls are not gonna be representative of mass market popularity/actual unit sales distribution.

Mind, based on Apple's update schedule, the Minis aren't as popular as other iPad models but they have a strong, loyal base.

Apple iPad line is so complex right now. You are exactly correct.

I use my ipads for media consumption, but I‘m an artist who mainly uses iPads to sketch on as well as edit photos & 4k video with. I have an 11” iPad Pro for home use & an iPad mini 6 for when I really want to travel light. This combo works well for me. 😉 👍🏼

I was happy with my air 1 for years but I never liked typing on it.
I used it mainly for reading the mighty internet and books.
Now it is really slow but Netflix still works.
An ereader is what I now use to read books and internet and mail mostly on my MacBook Pro 2020.

Had (still have) an iPad 3, the last version with the 30 pin connector. Then I bought an Air 4.

My wife has probably owned a half dozen iPads in the same time frame.

My first iPad was an iPad 4 (it broke and it was given to Apple for recycling).

I currently have 2, a 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and an iPad Air 5.

Pouring one out for my old mini 3, which is currently sitting at 3 votes. Worst iPad I ever owned. It was slow, the home button on mine was rattly and cheap-feeling, and it was really more like a mini 2s. I used it for reading and Netflix only. I got it on eBay, gave it to my son, then got it back again before recycling it at Apple. They even gave me a few bucks for it because it was able to power on.

I'm actually surprised the mini 6 is doing so well in this poll, but I guess I shouldn't be since I love mine so much.

where hip is spoken
I jumped on the iPad bandwagon on day-1 that the 1st gen iPads were made available for pre-order. I remember that the tech bloggers were predicting an MSRP of $1000 and the industry was blown away when it was half that.

I bought Apple's keyboard dock with the 1st gen. It was an amazing accessory. Using the iPad in portrait mode with full physical keyboard convinced me that the iPad could provide a very unique and productive alternative to traditional laptops.

Here's a list of the iPads I've owned and still own (all purchased new)....

  • iPad 1 = (still own) Now the "picture tube" in a vintage TV that plays vintage TV shows and commercials.
  • iPad 2 = (still own) Now serving dedicated duty in an iCade cabinet. (it still has MAME installed before it was pulled from the app store).
  • iPad 4 = Given to my adult daughter who still uses it.
  • iPad Air 2 = Traded in toward an iPad Mini 4.
  • iPad Pro 12.9 1st gen = Traded in toward iPad 6th gen.
  • iPad Mini 4 = Traded in toward a Mini 5.
  • iPad 6 = (still own) My wife still uses this on a regular basis, split between this and Galaxy Tab S6.
  • iPad Mini 5 = (still own) Use it daily as an e-reader and journal/notebook.
  • iPad 9 = (still own) Use it daily as a netbook, quasi-chromebook.

I wanted one when they were first announced but wasn’t sure how much I’d use it. By the time the iPad 2 was announced I knew exactly which apps I wanted and bought it on launch day.

I’ve had -
iPad 2
iPad 3
iPad 4
iPad Air
iPad Air 2
iPad Pro 9.7
iPad Pro 10.5
iPad Pro 11 (2018)

Currently, I’m iPadless. I may pick up a used Pro 11 M1 when the M2 is announced and the market is flooded, or I may continue without one for a bit longer.
