I have the iPad Air 3 as my daily driver iPad. I also have a iPad mini 2 which is no longer used but once in a blue moon, I'll fire it up for nostalgia purposes. My first iPad was the iPad 2 I got for Christmas in 2011 gave it to my Grandma around 2015 when it was time to retire the iPad. I still remember unboxing the iPad 2 as a kid and how excited I was!

The iPad Air 3 I believe has the same form factor as the 10.5" iPad Pro, which worked with my favorite case of all time: the Zagg Rugged Messenger. That thing checked all the boxes for me, and there's never been a case like it since. :(

In order, here are the iPad's I've owned:

iPad 2
iPad mini
iPad Air 2
iPad Pro 10.5"
iPad Pro 12.9" (2020) - current

And I'm hoping to pick up the 12.9" 2022 on release.

only ipads i've owned are the original model and the current 11" Pro.

i remember when iPad first came out and i preordered it. i had to take it to the Apple Store for replacement and i always remember a woman beside me saying "Lol what's the point in that thing? It's just a big iPod touch. Nobody wants to use them..."

once the excitement wore off i got bored of it and ended up selling it. until last year i never really was interested in getting an iPad again. The reason i got it was because i wanted an Apple device bigger and more powerful than my iPhone and something that could replace my PC. i was going to get an iMac but we never got a 27" M1 model. i was going to get the M1 Air but didn't really want to deal with a laptop. so the M1 iPad felt like the perfect device for me.

the difference going from the OG model to a 2021 Pro model is absolutely insane of course. i can't live without my iPad now and i find myself using my PC and OLED TV less than ever now. i can take it in my backpack with me and even though its wifi only i can just connect to my iPhone and get internet through that. i love it.

When the iPad came out, I didn't see the point of it. It seemed to me to be at an awkward size. It did not have the portability of a phone, yet lacked the usefulness of a laptop.

Then the iPad mini 1 came out, and I fell in love. I primarily use it for reading books and PDF's, as well as a GPS.

When the iPad 12.9" with the Apple Pencil came out, I discovered I could use it as a digital white board for teaching, both over a projector in person, and over Zoom online. I don't personally have the most recent versions of the iPad Pro, as the third generation works just fine for me.

  • iPad 1 - got this just a few weeks ago. They've hit the point where shipping costs more than the device itself, so I grabbed a 64GB unit for collecting purposes.
  • iPad 2 - Also got this year for collecting purposes, not much more than an iPad 1 unless you want higher capacities, and even then they're cheap.
  • iPad 4 - Got free from work once we retired it, barely used and in an Otterbox its whole life. Used to use it for 'dirty stuff' like if I needed an iPad for videos while working on the car, but Google nixed the YouTube app for iOS 10 recently so it's kinda been relegated to collection purposes now.
  • iPad Air - my first iPad, bought a few weeks after launch. Used until mid 2017, then I traded it in for credit. Sometimes I wish I'd kept it, but only having 16GB of storage was a hindrance for most of its life honestly.
  • iPad Air 2 - Picked one up recently to take the "toss around" role from the iPad 4.
  • iPad Pro 10.5 - used from 2017 to 2019, though I had it until 2020.
  • iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen - Bought used in mid 2019, sent back after a few weeks because it had touch issues.
  • iPad mini 5 - Got one of these shortly after launch as a replacement for the 12.9, used it for a while. Liked the sharp screen and Pencil compatibility, but eventually wanted bigger again, sold it in 2021.
  • iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen - Still have this one, it mostly stays in the Magic Keyboard. Excellent iPad, love the Gen 2 Pencil vs the original. Not in a rush to replace any time soon.
  • iPad mini 6 - After having the 12.9 a while I decided I wanted a Mini again, so I grabbed one in 2022 once I could get one at a store.

I have four iPads since they come out.

iPad (16 GB) - Bought during my sophomore year of college, I stopped using it in 2015 when it became completely useless. I don't have it anymore.
iPad Pro 9.7 (128 GB, Cellular) - I bought this used when I went to go back to using an iPad after using a Surface Pro 2. I used it until I bought an iPad Pro 2018 11" since I always wanted one. I got enough birthday money to get it.
iPad Pro 11" 2018, 256 GB - Bought this new in box with a discount. I used this as a lightweight laptop when I just need to websurf, games, or do light productivity tasks. It had a Logitech Slim Folio Pro, but replaced it with a Magic Keyboard when that came out. Eventually, I used it mostly for reading Manga, and games when I got the M1 iPad Pro.Still used today and still runs fast, although it's starting to show it's age a little.
iPad Pro 11" 2021, 256 GB - Mostly used when I am in bed or at work. This is my daily driver since it has more memory and is fast. Still, I can't take full advantage of the M1 processor on this one yet.

I bet I won't be the first who when they see "dirty stuff" thinks of something else lol.

iPad Air 2 bought in 2016.
iPad Air 4 bought at launch in 2020.
M1 iPad Pro(11 inch) bought in August of this year. Plan to keep this one for at least 3-4 years.

iPad 3 - Last used to flatten some paper that had become crumpled, as I upgraded the user to an Air 5. Probably not worth trying to sell as it seems to be giving up at this point. No iMessage notifications even though the setting for them is on.

iPad Mini 5 - Sold it after I got the Mini 6, which is my current iPad.
