My predictions:

- Pro Max Screen Size
- M2 Chip
- 256gb/512gb/1TB memory options
- 8GB RAM
- USB-C
- 2 front cameras
- 3x48MP back cameras
- Periscope Camera
- New Programmable Button
- Starting price: $1899

What are you expecting from next years rumoured Ultra iPhone model?

The iPhone is never going to get an M-series chip. They consume too much power for what they do, and I doubt Apple can even produce enough for all the iPhones they expect to sell.

My guess is a lot more conservative. New processor, better cameras, maybe some iterative improvements to existing specs, probably 1-2 new hardware features for the pro. Bearing in mind that at this point, it will be targeting iPhone 11-12 users, so I am 50-50 on a new form factor as well.

Exclusive only to the Ultra:
-dual front cameras
-new design including use of Titanium or some other premium material
-2GB option, base capacity 256GB
-periscope lens
-8GB of RAM or maybe even higher
-M3 chip perhaps, or maybe an enhanced A17
-48MP on all lenses (could see this on the Pro's possibly)
-reverse charging capability (exclusive to Ultra because of the massive battery which I expect to be significantly larger, maybe 5000mah)

Price surprisingly reasonable, similar to the Ultra Watch, starting at say $1249 in the US. This thing would be massive hit and very possibly sold out into the next year.

My prediction? Bigger, fatter, heavier, as usual. Here's the latest leaked mock-up, with the new extra large battery:

brick-in-back-pocket-1-1513432.jpg

Titanium, periscope lens, all camera units are 48MP (Huawei already had 48MP periscope telephoto lens on theirs), 256GB base storage, exclusive color and/or finishes, $1499 starting price.

iPhones will never get M series chip. Unlike the Mac and iPad, thermal and battery is severely limited on iPhones. Even the current A chips can already overheats if pushed too hard, and Apple already having a hard time packing enough battery in.

It’s an interesting question. They have to have some reason to attract new and existing buyers.

It’s hard to imagine they could have a huge battery size to weight improvement. A Ti case really wouldn’t make the phone noticeably lighter, as the phone doesn’t have much metal as a large part of the weight anyway. So you save the equivalent weight savings in grams of 4 sugar packets for another $200 and apple has to have a whole other production line? I don’t know. Seems unlikely.

Ceramic, real raw we’ve carbon fiber options? Man it’s think they’d be brittle. Even the Ti would scratch more than the Stainless Steel of the current pro. I 100% hate glass backs though which is one reason I just decided to get the pro among other things. I can’t think of any other game changing case material off the top of my head for an ultra model.

Maybe a more rugged design like the ultra watch? It would appeal to some. Dual GPS and true Garmin like offline maps that sync to the watch would 100% get me. I’d be really surprised if they implemented that. I would love a rugged looking phone with some weight improvements. I don’t want a rugged phone that’s heavier than the pro, although I could get over with it, if they were able to mitigate the weight vs. new features like they did on the Ultra watch which I’m loving.

I think we are 3-5 years out at least from any kind of huge battery tech change that allows 25%-50% battery at the same weight.

A 7.2” screen? Something even larger than the pro max? Ya that might appeal to new and existing buyers. It would be a differentiator from Samsung and others. I certainly wouldn’t be a target, I wanted a 14 mini pro, so I settled for a 14 pro. The max phone are just too bulky for me. Ther are people that really want that all in one device though.

Cameras maybe, but I can’t personally think of many improvements. I don’t think most people really take advantage of all the camera stuff you can do now. True 360 camera scanning? That would be awesome, but I don’t think most people would ever use it and apple would have to develop software to go with it. Duel front cameras maybe since some other phones have it. To be honest I don’t know why that’s a thing or what you use it for though.

The 15, 15 max, 15 pro, 15 pro max will all have the typical yearly improvements probably. A little more battery life and a little faster. I feel like it’s been a while since they’ve had a massive jump. The 11 was a pretty good jump and then they have been just makes good solid years improvements. For the Ultra to sell it’s going to have to have something over the evolution in the regular 14/15 line. That’s why I can’t quite put my finger on.

There will be no M Chip in the iPhone 15 Ultra, its literally almost impossible due to thermal and battery constraints.

M2, all titanium, and it will destroy itself if the user writes memory when they mean storage or if apostrophes and “s” are used to indicate plural of anything. I know, one can dream…😄

A bit more dynamic island perhaps (under display face id sensors) with just a cut out for the camera?

Next year should be a big update for all iPhone 15 models (especially after the backlash of the base iPhone 14 this year). USB-C is probably coming to all models, along with some design upgrades. Dynamic island should also make its way down. I can’t see them putting an M chip in a phone. Even on the iPads, it’s been overkill. Price wise, I can’t see them going too far above the current pro max price, especially if the Ultra replaces the Pro Max. Here’s my guess:

- 3nm A17 for Pro and Ultra (base iPhones get A16)

- Periscope camera zoom (pro and ultra)

- Titanium chassis (exclusive to ultra)

- “Action button” for quick launching apps or certain task (exclusive to ultra)

- 8K video (Pro and ultra)

- Better mics for recording (ultra)

- Pin hole camera cutout with under display FaceID. Still grows and expands for “dynamic island” (Exclusive to ultra)

- Price $1399

I'm going to make a wild but specific guess. I think there's a good chance that Apple will redesign how the cameras are arranged--especially once they add a periscope lens. One way they could do this would be to line them up horizontally as a change from the current stovetop design. This would also make it obvious you have a new one.

It’s apple, so i would assume it will look identical to the iPhone 14 pro. They are quickly becoming the least innovative tech company. Continuing to push out the exact same phone with spec bumps. 15 needs a huge new redesign, people are keeping their iPhones an average of 3 years, not great for apple.

What would the point of 8k video be? You can’t even really view that resolution on anything.

A and shortcut button would be cool for some people.

USBC - yes please! I don’t think they will do it. It seems weird though since the iPads already went to it. It’s annoying.

There hasn’t been a paradigm change shift or improvement conceptually in mobile devices since iPhone 0. Not really.

Seamless Folding screens, super thin, and transparent screens might be in the future, but not for a while.

The pro and non pro have over 30gr of difference which afaik is only due to the stainless steel frame .titanium would make it not only lighter than stainless but also lighter than aluminum so 40gr less I’m guessing ?

A titanium phone structure would not be lighter than aluminum. It would be 10’s of times stronger than aluminum though.

A ti version might weigh 20 grams less than the Stainless. That’s literally like 2 to 4 sugar packets.. Imperceptible.

I personally don’t believe it’s gonna be a huge difference compared to previous Pro Max Models (unlike some commenters here)

It’s mostly gonna be a name change and specific features.

So my prediction:

* 6.7in. There’s little to no chance Apple goes bigger than 6.7in. Samsung used to have 6.9in displays with the S20 Ultra and has since downgraded to 6.8in in the S21U and the S22U. Even samsung found a limit of how big people want their displays. Phone displays aren’t getting bigger than 6.7/6.8 ever.

* 256gb starting

* definitely periscope lens. maybe bigger sensors for all other cameras (main, ultra wide, 3x)

* idk about that dual front facing cameras that’s being rumored but sure. I bet Apple will have a good reason for it.

* stainless steel body

$1299 (only $100 more than the current 14 Pro Max 256gb model).

What about Liquid Metal? 🤔 Apple keeps renewing their deal with the amorphous alloy company but as of yet hasn’t used it for anything besides the sim tray ejection tool.

The current camera placement isn't dictated by marketing, but rather engineering. It's the most efficient way of positioning three circles together. If it were horizontal, it would interfere with the placement of the TrueDepth cameras. If it were vertical, it would eat into the battery space.
