Yeah, I'm with you on that. If I'm not going to use a case that covers the back, I'll buy a skin to jazz the back up. I NEED to have black bezels. My Lenovo Yoga Book is gold with black bezels. It looks really sharp.
Yep. I think black bezel with Champagne Gold or Rose Gold back would be a nice change. Alas I'm stuck with Space Gray whose exact shade seems to vary from generation to generation.

Another change I'd prefer, sandblasted chamfered edges instead of polished. Polished looks great when brand new but the minor nicks and scratches tend to accumulate quite quickly leaving it not so great looking.

White usually, only because it has a more fresh appearance. Screw watching videos, you don't notice it after a while.

Here's a photo of the iPad Pro 10.5 in both bezel colors. You can see that black border between the bezel and active part of the screen that are visible with the white bezel, but not visible with the black.

This is what tipped me over the edge towards black. Had always had black but when the air came out I hoped the laminated screen meant I could try a white bezel. But I couldn’t get past that thin black border - especially when viewing web pages.

Original Air didnt have a laminated display

White - if only because that's the only option if you want rose gold. It also blends in better for reading on white backgrounds.

Not so sure about that. I thought it’d be the case but when I went to the store the different levels of white across apps and the system started driving me crazy. Nothing merged with the bezel perfectly. And then the black strip issue mentioned above. Still flip flopping but I’m not as enamoured by the thought of white as before.

Safest option may be to go with space grey and black and then slap a DBRAND skin on the front and bezel if you want.

This isn't a snarky question but I am genuinely curious... Why does the chassis color matter? And do you use an opaque case?

Regarding the white blending better with white backgrounds, how often does the hue of white of the bezel match a white background? And how does that black gap between the screen and bezel factor into that blending?

Again, I'm not asking you to justify your preference, (we like what we like) but curious as to how one gets the white bezel to "work" for them. thanks!

The black line just doesn't bother me at all. Black is just kind of boring to me. It almost blends too well? It doesn't look as much like an iPhone or iPad to me.

Black creates the illusion of a much larger canvas.
I have owned iPads with black and white bezels before. I used to prefer white bezels, but I prefer black now.
Used to have white iPad 2, iPhone 4, and 5. Now all my iDevices have black bezels.

I use a smart cover but no case. I think the cases add bulk and take away from the appearance. I read a lot of PDFs usually on white or white-ish backgrounds and I can crop them in Goodreader to make the most of the screen size. Then the white bezel acts as a sort of margin. I've never been bothered by the black line.

That’s the primary thing that bothers me about white bezels, though I do often think the devices look their best in the silver/white colour scheme (a notable exception being the iPhone 8 which I don’t particularly care for in silver/white). I usually opt for the space grey or equivalent model, though I often consider the silver and have got an iPod in that colour.

I thought you’d all lost your marbles when I spotted this thread a couple weeks ago before I owned an iPad (again), naively believing I’d be equally happy with either color. ;)

Regarding the current designs of iPad and IPP, I would always choose white.

I like how it makes the overall device look smaller, cleaner, and how it coordinates with my Apple wireles keyboard.

I’m even wondering if having my iPad bezel look strikingly different from my MacBook Pro and my iPhone X has helped my brain learn more quickly which navigation method is needed when switching between the devices. In a very short time, I’m no longer reaching for the touchpad or trying to swipe down for Control Panel when using the iPad.

If the next iteration of the largest IPP has a choice between black or white bezels (and if I haven’t already bought the 2017 version), I’ll be ording white.

I tend to choose white as I find it mutes the reflective properties of the bezel. Black is way too much mirror for me.

I prefer white (even though I have black now). I think it looks better and also because it distinguishes it from a laptop to me. It's a weird psychological shift because it just makes me take it less seriously and not expect as much from it.

Exactly! I was writing kinda the same thing then seen this.

Im in the minority, but i’ve always prefered the white bezel on my ipads. I like the way it clearly defines the edge of the screen better. And it is also not annoyingly reflective like the black bezel is. Especially outside.

Are you sure it isn't the black gap between the white bezel and active part of the screen that is clearly defining the screen? ;)
