Seems like you’ve been abroad for quite a while now. Where in the world are you and when do you expect to return?

I believe she’s at the Tannhäuser Gate.

I just had to look that up....

Repent immediately by watching Blade Runner !

Ah, well. Suffice to say that I am in the whens and wheres described by the Chinese proverb - or blessing, or curse - I could never decide which - the one that says "may you live in interesting times."

I'm looking forward to a number of books this coming year: Philip Pullman's most recent book (I've been abroad since it was published), will greet me when I return home - and perhaps - perhaps - offerings from Hilary Mantel (the third book in her Thomas Cromwell series should be gripping), Scott Lynch (I don't care about G R R Martin - well, I do - but would love to see the fourth book in Scott Lynch's 'Gentlemen Bastards' series finally see the light of day) among others.

There are other books already awaiting me on the sofa - including the latest from Mary Beard, but will post about them when I finally manage to lay hands on them, and read them.

I'm diving in right here...

I have the terrible habit of going back to reread lengthy series when the latest novel comes out and it's been a few years. I picked up the latest Peter F. Hamilton novel set in his Commonwealth Universe (Night Without Stars), but started rereading the prior 6 books first. I'm up to the Temporal Void (4 of 6), with about 2000 pages to go before I can read the latest one. I think I ended up rereading the first few volumes of the Dark Tower books 4 or 5 times thanks to this compulsion.

I’ve read the first Dark Tower book, The Gunslinger and found it confusing. I hear that it gets better?

Also, the film The Dark Tower, is this just the first book or a film of the complete series?

Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination

Good book.
If you’re interested on Disney you should also check “How to be like Walt”. Despite the cheesy title it truly has some good content. It goes for $2.50 on Amazon (used) and I think it’s money well spent. 5 stars on amazon for a good reason.

Reading The Caves of Steel (The Robot Series Book 1). I am about a third of the way through it and I am digging it.

Glad to see this!

Thank you. I’ll check it out. Walt is very fascinating to me.

Absolutely. The first two books are literally Epic. This one ( third book: Oathbringer ) seems more 'managing the crisis' instead of living the crisis, but certainly worth the read.

In my opinion, anything by Sanderson is worth reading. His take over on the Wheel of Time blew me away.

PS. Anything by Terry Pratchett is amazing as well!

That should have been stout, not port. Port is something I indulge in once or twice a year. It irritates my heartburn. Which is odd because very good aged rum does not...

Indeed, the stout was enjoyed later.
We have a local stout nearby that, in my opinion, rates up with a Rochetfort 10.

PS. I drink a glass a port as often as I can, probably 3 times a week.

Try a smooth, aged tawny. A ten or twenty year old.

I've read some of Sanderson's work (I loved the Mistborn trilogy), but quail at the thought of tackling some of the monsters he seems to have published in recent years.
