i have been using a web site smashwords.com
it has quite a seclection of FREE books to get you hooked. It can directly download and share into the iPhone Reader app.

If the book you are reading is stored locally on your iPhone teh phone will function as a pretty good book reader. Battery life is adiquate and in dark mode the screen is quite readable,.

The cesspit of civilization
I’ve just finished “a closed and common orbit” (after eating up the first book in the wayfarer series, and washing it down with “the book of Etta”) by Becky Chambers.

Man, what a beautiful and heart warming novel. It is one of my favorite reads from the last few years. It’s sweet without being overwhelmingly so.

The narrative structure takes some time getting used to, but it is well employed and effective.

It’s so good that it could very well get into my top 5 list. I’m not sure yet, I tend to wait a few books more to cool down all the feelings before deciding if it will replace one of my all time favorites.

If you loved Firefly, Starwars and/or altered carbon, you have to read this.

This time of year it's a fast run through a few cookbooks for me. Soup season is here and I like to try a few different ones now and then along with cooking up batches of old favorites to stash in the freezer. So today a look through Judith Barrett's Saved by Soup. Gonna try a Tuscan white bean soup later today.

Tuscan white bean sup sounds perfect for autumn.

Paid a swift visit to the library to pick up a few books that were held for me.

Just finished this one:

The Remaining Book 1 - Will be picking up book two to read. Not to bad!

And tonight I start this one...

The Overlook - Harry Bosch Book 13

Also currently reading the following graphic novels:

The Immortal Hulk Book 2
The Punisher Max - Garth Ennis run... Have the omnibus Vol 1 and over halfway through it and freaking love it!
I like the Harry Bosch novels, although haven't picked one up in a while. The Prime series is pretty good too and I think Titus Welliver is well cast as Bosch.

Just started to re-read the tetralogy of the cemetery of forgotten books (The shadow of the wind, the angel's game, the prisoner of heaven and the labyrinth of the spirits. All in all, about 2k+ pages).

Zafón is way more churrigueresque than I remember, at least on the first 100 pages. But nonetheless, his prose is something to behold and enjoy, and the plot has already enveloped me as it did the first time.

Then again, I'm biased, since I'm in love with BCN since I met her last century, and she is one of the main characters of these novels. (yes, her; I'm anthropomorphizing a city).

DeLillo is an author I'd like to read more of. I enjoyed "Libra" but found "White Noise" baffling. Maybe I need to give it a re-read.

"Libra" I enjoyed a lot and have re-read, "White Noise" didn't interest me so much when I read it. "Mao II" was interesting and I've re-read it too.

The first book of his that I read was "Underworld"; it's long and has a complicated set of story lines and characters. I liked it at first, and then further on I didn't, but then midway thru it I found I was back to liking it quite a bit.
